To become independent from Logitech would be great so we could preserve lms system. If that needs a donation, no problem. I'm more than willing to keep things running. Really like lms especially since it's pretty universal.
You've got a wish, probably someone found or created a solution.
All plugins working without having to rely on an unknown server of the original developer would be a step forward.
Btw LovelyMusicSystem sounds ok and keeps lms acronym alive.

I too think it'd a good idea to drop the 'logitech' part of the name - as it'd, make it feel more indepedent and open-source. Did a quck search for music terms starting with "L" - how about "Libretto Music System" ? (Libretto starts with Libre - which is the open part of open-source). Or perhaps even "Libre Music System" (which matches LibreOffice).
Material debug: 1. Launch via http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json (Use http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json,cometd to also see update messages, e.g. play queue) 2. Open browser's developer tools 3. Open console tab in developer tools 4. REQ/RESP messages sent to/from LMS will be logged here.

Lovely ??? Why not Lush / Luscious, or Lovable?

How about a single name after a music deity? Minerva? or even more exotic Aztec god, Huehuecˇyotl ... maybe not!

Is it time to set up a Github organization for allthings LMS?

Well, that would still be up to the Plugin author. But many of them
probably would be happy to see this repository as a new home for their
code when they decide to leave the community.

Maybe I'm just going with LMS - whatever it eventually means :-)

Definitely - there have been too many name changes and would complicate internet searches

I'd expect all the old names such as Slimserver etc to be property of Logitech.

I like the idea of L = Libre but then could be confused as coming under the auspices of the LibreOffice organisation / Document foundation.

So in my mind - LMS = Liberated Music System.

However, a search for SlimServer gets to it pretty quickly but a search for LMS finds plenty of other things before it hits "ours" (including lms.com)

That might indeed be helpful. I believe we should set something up to
eg. monitor plugins for changes and send out notifications to admins in
case of changes etc. Not sure we can use GH Actions for the builds, as
not only are these pretty heavy (several hundred MBs per build), but
also require rather specific build environments. Unless I make today's
    build hosts "runners".

This should be pretty easy, the standard CircleCI runners can do this. "hundreds of MBs" isn't all that big anymore. A full checkout of one project I work on is almost 900MiB now. Docker images for building are pre-canned.

Builds typically do shallow checkouts, and docker images for building are cached.

We already have a community building Docker images of LMS, doing the normal build process in Docker should be no problem at all.
