    Metadata in FLAC streams

    > In the attached "X" means that meta data is not updated

When you say that a pCP did not update the metadata, how do you check?
Do they have a display attached?

Did you double-check settings for all configurations wrt. Direct vs.
Proxied Streaming? Bitrate limiting? Identical plugins installed? No
    custom-convert file etc.?

In the attached "X" means that meta data is not updated

    The problem players are

    SB Touch (doh!)
    iPeng
piCorePlayer but ONLY when it also the server

Unfortunately I do not have a Transporter or a Duet so can't confirm the status.

Just to restate in ALL cases mp3 metadata is fine.
Per Michael's comment in following post, it might be that there is some conversion done and the icy is lost there. You should look at the conversion logging on the problematic instances

Tried with both Proxied and Direct.
I mean that the metadata does not update when viewed through Material, Web Gui etc it is stuck on the first track played.
The Touch doesn’t update on its own screen or via Material etc

you should take a log of a failed one with the "conversion loglevel" set to at least info to know what's being used

    Don't know if this helps

I have two "identical" pcp 4b/4g server players.

One updated the metadata, one didn't.

After a happy Sunday morning trying to get them to behave in the same manner, and co-incidentally wondering how Radio Paradise does it, I noticed (this morning) that RP appeared to be using flac/flac decoding whereas native ogg/flac was enabled on one of my server players. I disabled native ogg/flac (forced flac/flac) on the failing server/player and this resolved the metadata updating issue for me.

Looking forward to hearing your station when it goes "live".

    YMMV.

A bit more experimentation on FLAC metadata:

    FOR ME:

Radio Paradise metadata updating works in both forced native OGG-FLAC and forced FLAC/FLAC but in both cases the lower right pane of the display does not update.

Jive Radio metadata updating works in full in forced FLAC/FLAC but doesn't update in forced native OGG-FLAC.

RP has a different way to gather metadata; it's not inside the stream (in-band), so it's not comparable.

Surely if you just “tune in” to http://stream.radioparadise.com/flacm as opposed to using the plugin then the metadata must be in the stream?

Not necessarily. I have not checked for the Radio paradise plugin ... but a plugin can register stream URLs that it wants to be notified of.
Then when that is played, the plugin is called.

I just played that flac stream with foobar2000 and it did not show song info - again, not proof.
