Does anybody know if there is any other way to get metadata on a stream other than ICY, when there is no help from a plugin? I don't think there is

As I understand it the Icy metadata is inserted into the first headers of the stream but doesnít include artist / title which is handled in the stream itself

    You get
    icy_name
    icy_description
    icy_url
    Etc
Which tells you about the station not the playing track

no, the icy I'm referring to is different. You would have (if supported) an icy-interval field that tells how often (in bytes) there is the icy metadata inserted in the stream

ICY has iniital HTTP headers saying icy metadata present and where to find the metadata in the stream (i.e. interval between chunks) - then in the stream it will be ICY metadata format streamTitle

There's no "icy-metaint" header - so no metadata in the stream.

Testing mp3. Only one instance of StreamTitle - when started. Without icy-metaint there is no update to it. I don't see any updates using ffplay.

    Interesting
On mp3 stream Iím seeing updates in all iOS apps I have tried, all PC apps and when played by any SB Player hardware or software. I have not tried with any Linux tools.
Pretty sure I can add an icy-metaint to the headers if itís missing and really required but how are all of the apps / software / SB players consuming it if itís not there?
