    LMS Frozen, Crashing...

    > is it possible to actually write and run Perl scripts using the perl
    > executables shipped with LMS?

    That's on Windows? Unfortunately no.

But could you please summarize the issue you're still facing? I see from
your logs that https lookup would fail, but then LMS would go back to
http - which seems to be working?

LMS Frozen, Crashing... Port 9000 "Unavailable"

Last night I ran a BBC radio stream on a Radio via LMS 7.9.1, no problems. But this morning, while the radio stream was still running, my browser (F'fox) won't connect to LMS, and no other player will connect to LMS. Tried a few re-boots, but no joy. Windows tells me LMS is running, but if I try to stop it I get this message: "Stopping LMS failed. Please see the Event Viewer and Contact Support". Opening LMS Control Panel is odd too - I can't get it to open as Admin, and I can't use the Control Panel to stop or start LMS - "not responding"....

Here's a server log extract, accessed via the Control Panel. The last couple of lines are then repeated several hundred times, up until a time stamp of a few minutes ago:

Plugins::BBCiPlayer::BBCOnAir::__ANON__ (236) error fetching RadioPlayer BBC data while playing so try fetching again

    Any clues welcome!

[Quick edit for additions - assorted Players will connect fine to MySB; no network issues on the Win machine.]

A lot of services now require https support - https support in 7.9.1 was not great. I think old https support is the issues causing "error fetching RadioPlayer BBC data while playing so try fetching again"

There was a bug in Windows LMS 7.9.1 ( IIRC pre- July 2018, your LMS is March 2018) which meant BBCiPlayer could have issues playing BBC HLS streams.

If https support is not up to date - strange issues can occur.

What version of IO::Sockets::SSL do you have - look in WebUI Settings/ Information ? It should be at least 2.* and preferably higher than 2.002.

Thanks, as ever, for the quick reply.

I can't get the LMS web GUI to open at all - "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ......9000" - so I can't get into LMS Settings...... Any other way of finding that info? Also, up until this morning, everything was working fine.

Any mileage in running a CleanUp via LMS Control Panel > Advanced ?

Just an additional thing.... Looking at LMS Control Panel>Diagnostics, I see this:

"Logitech Media Server is running but can't be contacted on port 9000."

and in the LMS panel of that page I see:

          LMS - Running
          IP - (correct)
          Port 3483 (slimproto) - Failed
          Port 9000 (HTTP) - (blank)
          Port 9090 (CLI) - Failed

It "feels" like LMS is not running. Control Panel is separate from LMS- I don;t know how it checks that LMS is running.

Can you kill the slimserver.exe using Task manager ?

Yes. So my Win10 notification area now shows the LMS icon greyed out, and reading (on a hover) "LMS Stopped". Right click on the icon, and then "Start LMS" gives a briefly flashing icon and then "LMS Running" with a solid icon. However, trying to open the Web GUI again gives "Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:9000."

Very odd. I'm wondering whether to Uninstall / Reinstall ......

Why did you upgrade to 7.9.2 and not 7.9.3 ? Missing out on very many bug fixes - especially https ones.

7.9.2 - 2020 is just the build date - no significant code changes for over 12 months. 7.9.3 has only had some bugs fixes in last 12 months. 8.* is where development is happening.

https is not a static feature - new versions of TLS have been deployed since 7.9.2 and some sites only work with the latest. Sites change over to new versions of TLS overnight and so network failures can happen suddenly.

It is hard to debug a system which uses old s/w.

On this new machine I installed - just a couple of months ago - 7.9.1. No idea how it changed to 7.9.2 in the meantime.... But I've now downloaded 7.9.3 and will upgrade.

In the meantime, I tried something I had mentioned above - the CleanUp option of Preferences and Caches. That seems to have fixed the problem; and I seem to have been able to rebuild all my prefs etc etc pretty easily. I'm just doing a media rescan, and then I'll update LMS to 7.9.3.

So, clearing prefs etc and updating to 7.9.3 seems to have worked. But, given that the fault developed "out of the blue", we shall see over the course of the day...

BTW, I have Auto Install of updates enabled. So I guess I went from the manual, fresh install of 7.9.1 to 7.9.2 without noticing. But why then no auto-update to 7.9.3?

Q: Given that I cleared my Prefs etc, I now see that the optional Repository box in Settings>PlugIns is empty. I though I had entries there relating both to BBC iPlayer, and AirPlay Bridge. Do I in fact need anything there, and how do I find the Repositories if so needed?

                      Cheers,

Without warning, stations and associated services (e.g. Akamai, Tune-in, Radio.net etc) can change to a different level of TLS which used in in https and so "problems" can occur overnight. Issues might be related to CA certificates being renewed which are also part of the https & TLS process. At least on 7.9.3 you have a system where "out of date" https support is not a consideration and system can be debugged.

The BBciPlayer repository URL to be added to LMS WebUI Settings/Plugins

BTW, I have Auto Install of updates enabled. So I guess I went from the manual, fresh install of 7.9.1 to 7.9.2 without noticing. But why then no auto-update to 7.9.3?

Q: Given that I cleared my Prefs etc, I now see that the optional Repository box in Settings>PlugIns is empty. I though I had entries there relating both to BBC iPlayer, and AirPlay Bridge. Do I in fact need anything there, and how do I find the Repositories if so needed?

                            Cheers,
So something definitely changed yesterday as I am having the same problem. I did get it to work, but now my FAVORITES is in BOLD and under apps and when I hit it, it just spins, the plugin for podcast under apps now reads PLUGIN_PODCAST. I really don't want to blow everything away and reinstall... any other ideas?

                            thanks much... darien

So I just reinstalled 7.3 and it seems to be working now although the FAVORITES is still in bold and so is the PLUGIN_POSCAST. Any ideas on how to not make those bold? just seems really odd to me...
