    LMS Documenter Part II

    There has been a few enquiries on here regarding my old LMS Cataloging program ( I used to call it Documenter ) which scans your LMS server and produces an interactive indexed PDF of your music collection - by interactive I mean you can click on an artists name and you will be directed to a list of the artists albums and tracks with the album artwork.

    There are some of you on here that are familiar with the workings of the program but for those that aren't I show basic download / instructions below - there is a thread on here where someone shows a graphical howto of using the program which is much better than what I show here but I don't know how to create a link to another thread.

    I've put a revised version of the documenter on my Dropbox - the only major difference in this version is you have the option to exclude the album artwork which reduces the file size massively. To give you an idea of the difference artwork makes my collection with artwork produced a file of 27mb and without it is 1.3mb.

    Click here to dowload the zip file
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pwrp1o6n1...kqMnxTTua?dl=0

    Once you've downloaded the zip file unzip it into it's own folder and try it out ( double click on the .exe file ).

    When the form appears
    Enter your name in the textbox at the top of the form this will appear on the first page of the pdf and select a folder for your output file don't try to add a filename this is generated automatically.
    Click on the Scan For LMS Servers button ( it used to do this automatically ) and wait until your server details appear on the form.
    Then click Scan Music Library and watch the checkboxes on the right of the form being checked one at a time.
    Once all of the checkboxes are checked
    Check or uncheck add album art then click the Generate Pdf button and watch the progress.

    It can take some time to scan your network for a server but it will find it if there is one.
    Let me know how you get on.

    Pete Kane

    If you have any feature requests or find bugs please ask - I can't promise but I will try to accommodate you.

    Thanks for this works really well.

    I have a couple of requests / comments:

    In the "without artwork" list can you make the album title stand out more - maybe bold or slighlty larger font or different colour? This would make the title easier to pick out from the tracks.

    A simplified output with just Artist and Album title would be really useful. This is for use on the phone when out browsing so I can do a "have I got this album" look up quickly - currently the with tracks list is 7.5Mbyte and has 1120 pages so a bit clumbersome for use on the phone.

    Hi Pete

    This looks really useful so I tried it out. Unfortunately I get an Unhandled exception error whilst scanning for LMS.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
        <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
    rather than be handled by this dialog box.
    Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Grateful for any advice.
    Thanks
    I have the same issue here. I'm trying to run Documenter on the same machine as LMS - my music files are also located on the same machine. The local server is never found, no matter how long Documenter searches so in the end I just have to Quit. Had the same problem with the previous version of Documenter not finding the local LMS. Would it be possible to provide an option to manually enter the server IP address and port number?

    Having read your comment bobertuk, I tried running it from my laptop and it works. Like you I was previously running it on my PC where LMS and my music library are located.

    @pkfox - Pete, could this be the problem?

    Using the first version of Documenter I could get a server showing up if I had my iMac running and Documenter went on to produced a valid PDF. I use the iMac infrequently and in this instance use it to keep a complete backup of my music files - LMS runs on it as well. Oddly the server that shows up in Documenter has a completely different IP address to either the windows 10 PC or the iMac. If I run that 'odd' IP address in a web browser (from the win 10 PC) it links to LMS on the PC not the iMac. If I shut down the iMac the server address disappears in Documenter. I think Documenter is not searching for LMS server on itself, but on other networked PC's. Unfortunately none of this happens with the new version of Documenter

    For those of you who have been getting errors could you download the zip again ( maybe unzip it into a different folder ? ) and rerun it - I've put some basic error handling in which should give you a more human readable useful error. I will add proper error logging in the future.
