I use mp3tag, too. Does it say that? From what I understand, it might be true or not completely true, depending on the actual wording: If you want to create multiple genre tag entries, then yes. If you want to have one genre tag that contains multiple genres, then use a semicolon. LMS treats a semicolon as a separator.
Example:
Classical\\Cello Concertos
is mp3tag's way of displaying:
GENRE=Classical
GENRE=Cello Concertos
whereas
GENRE=Classical;Cello Concertos
is just one genre tag with two genres in it. That's what I do.
(If I'm completely wrong, please correct me. That's just my understanding of how this works.)
Yes.

That's not quite right.
In MP3TAg
if you put "classical;violin" into the genre field then thats what get written into a SINGLE tag named GENRE
if you put "classical\\violin" into the field then TWO tags get created both called GENRE
LMS is capable of reading either method used into its databaseVB2.4 storage QNAP TS419p (NFS)

Fabulous posts on genre tagging ...
I hav justre-worked hundreds and hundreds of Jazz tracks (mostly Swing) w/help of musicbrainz....seem to now have a good handle on the folders etc .. have started making the crooked straight, so to speak...
Phase 2 is to get the MP3Tag sw to get the genres straight ...I think I will go with the semi-colon method for genres -- jazz;swing ....jazz;dixieland ... jazz;vocal....
going to ge a much better handle on all this great music ..
BTW - a great radio station for Swing/Jazz is Public Domain Jazz out of Switzerland -- very deep playlists and no commercials...----------------------------------------------

In mp3tag I have added a tag called style. In lms you can use custom scan to scan ‘style’ and you can use custom browse to setup menus to browse your music collection. It is explained here how to add the tag;
