infrared for the duet, is it possible?

I came across this site where there is a possible option to use infrared via the squeezebox duet.

I can't find anything else about it on the internet.

my question is, has anyone ever tried this?

I'm guessing the current receiver firmware wouldn't support it.

It may have been part of h/w design but not used in final delivery.

The SB Duet controller has a IR port and can control other SB devices using IR and so IR on the receiver may have been part of the early design but found unnecessary.

That the remote for the duet has an infrared I did not know, maybe I can use it for example to adjust the volume of the amplifier, at least if there is the lirc file for that or that I have to learn it via the original remote control.
