    Just adding a note regarding the vortexbox as I used to have one. If you can remote in, I think you can install newer versions of LMS as per this post here

    This is what I did.

    Yes you can bring it right up to date with v8 BUT you must never use the VB update button in the web gui afterwards.

    My 2.4 VB is running 7.9.3. It’s not an appliance though it is an HP Microserver with a single SSD and files on my NAS. As the OS and database are on the SSD it’s very fast.

    I also have 4gb Pi4 running the latest v8 which uses the same files on the NAS. It’s almost as fast.
    VB2.4 storage QNAP TS419p (NFS)
    Living Room - Joggler & SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 -> Celestion F20s
    Office - Pi3+Sreen -> Sony TAFE320 -> Celestion F10s / Pi2+DAC & SB3 -> Onkyo CRN755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes
    Dining Room -> SB Boom
    Kitchen -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio)
    Bedroom (Bedside) - Pi2+DAC ->ToppingTP21 ->AKG Headphones
    Bedroom (TV) - SB Touch ->Sherwood AVR ->Mordaunt Short M10s
