Ok, that might indeed be the problem we're discussing here (if you are
on Windows).

It's great to hear that this preference proves to be helpful. But I'll
have to figure out why Windows builds would fail the certificate checks.
I committed a change which would disable the checks by default,
basically reverting this recent security improvement... (Windows only!)

MHerger,
Indeed I am using Windows but I am still using W7-Ultimate and not W10. I tried W10 on all of my computers but prefer W7; probably because of my use of it since it was first released. But since Microsoft stopped W7 support I may have to finally install W10 from the backups that I made during my test runs.
Thanks again,
Richard

What do you consider "the web UI won't start"? Any trace of an error in
server.log?

The issue discussed here isn't limited to W10.

I went back and forth between 7.9.3 and 8.0 three times over the past couple of days. Clean install each time on my Win 10 machine. There are my issues with 8.0:
1. Some plugins (i.e C3PO) will not appear under 8.0 after clean install although it is compatible with 8.0. It will carry forward fine if upgrading from 7.9.x
2. Tidal will play only mp3. No flac. 7.9.3 plays flac, too.
3. When entering mysqueezebox.com credentials from the tray after fresh install, LMS accepts user name and password but there is an error message, too.

Many plugins have a maxVersion set to 7.*. The authors need to update
the definition.
What makes you believe they were compatible, but not installed?

I doubt this is related to LMS8. TIDAL has been suffering from other
issues for months. If you didn't give it a try in the last 24h, then
please do so. Those issues should be resolved now.

Make sure you're running the latest nightly. If you're on Windows you
might need to go to Settings/Advanced/Security to allow "Insecure
HTTPS". This would fall back to the mode LMS 7.9 was using. LMS 8 by
default uses stricter rules, certificate validation etc.
