It's quite simple, my wife's modest library is tagged with genre (e.g.) Folk;Wendy so she's able to play genre "Wendy" shuffled all day long.

Random Songs is only gettingtracks from a tiny subset of library

The CLI documentation is available from LMS Help pages (bottom left in
    the default skin).

You can run a request using eg. Curl:

    curl -X POST -d
    '{"id":0,"params":["00:04:20...",["randomplaygenreselectall",
    1]],"method":"slim.request"}' http://localhost:9000/jsonrpc.js

I see that I can telnet in and issue commands. It's not going to be an attractive option unless there's a way to automate it or schedule it. Otherwise, going to Random Mix>Select all>Select none>save is just fine.
You can also do it using curl from the command line, which will run from a bash script for automation:

    Code:
    curl -i -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"id":1,"method":"slim.request","params":[ "0", ["randomplaygenreselectall", "1"] ]}' localhost:9000/jsonrpc.js

EDIT: That's funny. Michael's post 7 mins before mine was not showing when I posted.

That's brilliant @kidstypike - I actually have something similar - when I was running a hi-fi shop (and used to write music reviews for a local lifestyle & fashion magazine) and I had music recommendations from people, I would 'tag' the genre with their name (as well as all the usual 'standard' genres) so I could do the same to quickly create (on the fly) a play list (by genre) of albums or such they had recommended. But hadn't thought of doing it for my fiancÚe...

P.S. I keep seeing Adela Diane popping up everywhere in screenshots and such (all over the web, different forums & websites) with regard to LMS and other Music Servers (JRiver, Roon, etc) - guess I'll have to find her on spotify and have a listen....

Second there's a CLI command "randomplaygenreselectall 1" to select them all. That should allow you to select all genres without the limitation of the web UI.
I enabled telnet and logged in and executed this command. Is what it returned, what would be expected?

Do I understand that now, all genres are selected, and will remain selected as new genres are added and automatically selected during the nightly rescan? This would obviate the need to run this command again.

The scan doesn't care about that setting. But you should see in the
    RandmPlay menu what is selected.

All genres are now selected, which could not be accomplished through the browser interface. I'll check to see if they remain checked, following subsequent rescans.

    Thanks for your help, Michael.

I'm trying to do this again and when I telnet in, I'm getting a blinking cursor but no login prompt. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
