LMS and PLEX: no internet but wifi

This is really more PLEX question than an LMS one.

I have both running on my local network. Often my internet goes down but LMS still streams nicely to my Squeezeboxes throughout the house. This is as expected as my music is stored locally. But the same doesn't happen with PLEX even though I have my files stored locally as well. When the internet goes down it won't stream to my TV via chromecast.

Can any of the wifi/internet cognoscenti explain why this is so? Why does LMS work and PLEX doesn't when the internet goes down even though both are streaming from my local computer? Is it simply a PLEX thing?

You are right - a pure Plex question. But anyway, the short answer is Plex needs internet connectivity unless setup specifically to not use it.

Here is one link (search for ÔÇťPlex without internet): https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/how...ternet-access/ <https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/how-to-use-plex-media-server-without-internet-access/> or https://forums.plex.tv/t/use-plex-wi...network/179493 <https://forums.plex.tv/t/use-plex-without-internet-connection-on-home-network/179493>

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't say my question was pure PLEX as, to me, familiar is I am with LMS, I can't see why it needs an internet connection to stream locally. And there is no forum for PLEX like there is for LMS, to garner reliable info; especially not one constituted by a knowledgeable group of tech savies as exist on here.

Did you look at the links in the previous post? Workarounds for Plex are shown there.

Plex authenticates the connection between player and server via please own server. Hence no internet, no Plex.

You need to set connection as insecure allowed on local network

    Joggler Squeezeplay as Remote (Lounge)
PiCorePlayer 3.11 with pi official touchscreen and hifiberry DAC (Office)
    Joggler Squeezeplay as Remote (Office)
    Joggler Squeezeplay (Kitchen)
    Joggler Squeezeplay (Conservatory)
    Radio x 2 (Bedroom)
    Joggler Squeezeplay (Garage)

Thanks, but I don't trust myself to fiddle with registry settings and the like, so I will just live with the fact that I can't play PLEX in those rare circumstances when the internet is down. (I'll just explain to my kid that that's the way it is). At least she can listen to music via LMS.

Please check the links I posted initially - there are NO registry settings you have to change. Only settings in the Plex server.

I installed Emby Media Server as a second backup media server, which also works completely without internet.

It's a single click box in the web interface
PiCorePlayer 3.11 with Hifiberry Digital + (Lounge)
    Joggler Squeezeplay as Remote (Lounge)
