You don't have to have a case - e.g. if you are hiding it away somewhere (perhaps inside something else) - but generally a good idea.
Make sure that the case is right for the model - the connectors have moved around a bit over the years.
I tend to buy my Pi bits and pieces from Pimoroni (also in UK)

Hi All,
I'm also interested in an similar subject around Rasp Pi capabilities - but more as a (SqueezeLite) player and the USB output quality to a DAC compared to other hardware player alternatives (i.e. Sonore/SOtM/Allo/etc)... Rather than hi-jack this thread I started a fresh one (Hardware SqueezeLite Player Suggestions (USB, Native DSD)) but am keen to hear the outcome here as Raspberry Pi is something that I'm not overly familiar with - and a Pi 3B has been suggested as a less expensive alternative for my purposes. I'm busy reading to catch up but do different people do souped up or customised hardware components (MB) for R Pi (e.g. are there any resellers who pimp them)?Hi-Fi 1: QNAP HS-453DX NAS+QLMS/Allo USBridge Signature+Shanti LPS/Cirrus ESS Sabre 32-bit Reference DAC (Oppo 105D)/Yamaha Aventage CX-A5000/Focal SM9s.

For "pimped up" Pi's with various DAC options and nice cases take a look at
https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/netwo...ch-c-6350.html
These will pretty much all work with piCorePlayer or Max2Play out of the box.
They are stupidly expensive compared to building it yourself but ......VB2.4 storage QNAP TS419p (NFS)

I’d consider a Pi 4 as LMS server. I upgraded from a Pi 3B+ - the LMS experience is noticeably snappier on the Pi 4. I went for a FLIRC Raspberry Pi Case. It’s affordable, beautifully crafted and the whole case acts in combination with a thermal pad as a heat sink. I don’t have any thermal issues with my Pi 4 LMS server - without a fan.

Cheers @d6jg - yes as you say paying a premium, that is getting towards the entry prices for Sonore, SOtM, etc... (so hard to justify).
Thanks @Man in a van - that actually looks a really good option for a player/transport for me! I looked at Allo but somehow missed that - the fact they made sure they separated out the Ethernet and the Audio USB out onto their own buses to reduce noise looks great!Hi-Fi 1: QNAP HS-453DX NAS+QLMS/Allo USBridge Signature+Shanti LPS/Cirrus ESS Sabre 32-bit Reference DAC (Oppo 105D)/Yamaha Aventage CX-A5000/Focal SM9s.
