    Raspberry Pi 7 Inch Touch Display Streamer with HAT Sound Cards

    Hello Slimdevices Community,

    We have designed a solution for a DIY Squeezebox Touch-like Raspberry Pi kit for sound cards from four different manufacturers. - Finally without soldering and drilling

    We have long thought about how to combine all elements of Max2Play in one aesthetically-pleasing device. We wanted to highlight the Squeezebox functionality as server AND player in one. But of course this control should be as appealing and practical as possible. So we used the 7 inch Touch Display from Raspberry Pi with the Joggler Skin for Jivelite control. The popular graphical user interface also allows control over all other squeezeplayers in the home network.

    This bundle also elegantly solves the problem of shutting down the Pi. In addition to our HTTP request for direct shutdown with another device, we have integrated a power button that allows both shutdown and boot with a simple click. Thus, one can switch off the device at any time directly at the side of the case without having to execute a command.

    Based on Audiophonics' CNC-manufacutred aluminum housing, this setup allows you to select which sound card you want to use. Whether Hifiberry, IQaudIO, Allo or Abacus electronics: This works with a variety of DAC's and Digi HAT's. From HiFiBerry, we had a new variant of the HiFiBerry DAC+ Pro and HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro made, which already has a GPIO pin header presoldered on the sound card. This allows you to access all the necessary GPIOs directly on the board and also ensures safe shutdown.

    In addition, all components, including the official Raspberry Pi 7 inch touch display, are covered by one power supply unit. With the power management module, Pi, sound card and display are all safely and continuously supplied with the right voltage. Thanks to the coaxial power plug connection of the module, the power supply of your choice can be used with a voltage of 9 to 12 volts.

    Wir haben eine Lösung für ein DIY Squeezebox Touch Baukit entworfen für Soundkarten von vier unterschiedlichen Herstellern. - Endlich ohne Löten und Bohren

    Wir haben uns lange Gedanken gemacht, wie wir alle Elemente von Max2Play in einem schicken Gerät vereinen können. Hervorheben wollten wir die Squeezebox-Funktionalität als Server UND Player in einem. Aber natürlich sollte damit auch diese Steuerung so ansprechend und praktisch wie möglich gelöst sein. Somit nutzen wir das 7 Zoll Touch Display von Raspberry Pi mit dem Joggler Skin für Jivelite. Die beliebte grafische Oberfläche für Squeeze-Steuerung kommt somit voll zur Geltung und erlaubt zudem die Kontrolle über alle weiteren Squeeze Player im Heimnetz.

    Auch die Problematik des Herunterfahrens mit dem Pi haben wir mit diesem Bundle elegant lösen können. Neben unserem HTTP-Request zum direkten Herunterfahren mit einem anderen Gerät, haben wir hier einen Power Button integriert, der sowohl das Runterfahren als auch das Hochfahren mit einem simplen Tastendruck ermöglicht. So kann man das Gerät jederzeit direkt an der Seite ausschalten, ohne einen Befehl ausführen zu müssen.

    Aufbauend auf Audiophonics' CNC-gefrästem Aluminium-Gehäuse, kann man mit diesem Setup auswählen, welche Soundkarte man nutzen möchte. Ob Hifiberry, IQaudIO, Allo oder Abacus electronics: Dies geht mit einer Vielzahl an DAC's und Digi HAT's. Speziell von HiFiBerry haben wir hier eine neue Variante der HiFiBerry DAC+ Pro und HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro anfertigen lassen, welche bereits eine GPIO-Pinleiste auf der Soundkarte hat. Damit lassen sich alle nötigen Weiterleitungen direkt auf der Platine abgreifen und auch das sichere Herunterfahren ist so gewährleistet.

    Außerdem werden alle Komponenten, inklusive dem offiziellen Raspberry Pi 7 Zoll Touch Display, mit einem Netzteil versorgt. Mit dem Power Management Modul werden Pi, Soundkarte und Display alle sicher und durchgehend mit der richtigen Spannung versorgt. Dank dem Hohlstecker-Anschluss des Moduls lässt sich so auch das Netzteil eurer Wahl mit einer Spannung von 9 bis 12 Volt einsetzen.

    Thanks for doing this. It looks to be high quality, but a bit expensive if only used as a Squeezebox. If one can live without the screen, the same SB player/server functionality can be built for under $150.

    Or for the same money, one could buy a HiFiMeDIY Sabre USB DAC and a pre-assembled Win 10 mini PC:

    At the $375 cost of your offering, I think you need to include assembly and testing.

    Thank you for your feedback!

    Our goal was to build an improved, more versatile alternative to the Squeezebox Touch. That includes a bigger display and a high quality metal housing. But also important to us were the many options to customize the kit to your liking, chief among them the many HAT sound cards that can be implemented.

    Of course we tested the setup extensively here in our offices. We currently only offer kits, our community enjoys the DIY aspect and the high flexibility in setup of this method. However, we will also evaluate whether we can offer a pre-configured, ready-made set - thanks for your suggestion!

    If you don't need the touch control, you can always go for a kit with just Pi, sound card, PSU, microSD and housing. Those even start at under 100 € in our shop.

    DIY RPi Squeezeboxes - Max2play

    I've now got 3 RPi Max2play devices which I built with no real prior knowledge to complement two existing SB3's and a Logitech Radio. I found the Web interface very useful for a beginner as well as the extensive instructions on your website. I used IQAudio DAC/amps which feed KEF ceiling and outdoor speakers. I then built a "controller" without any DAC or AMP but with a Touchscreen display (running Jivelite) - this is in the Kitchen and allows you to control the different rooms and also see what is playing as well. I'm very proud of it! The other excellent controller is pippin's Ipeng - would highly recommend both Max2play and Ipeng!
    Music Server: VortexBox (2.4) > LMS 7.9.1
    Study: Squeezelite player (from the VBA) > PC powered speakers with subwoofer.
    Lounge: SB3 > Marantz hifi > B&W speakers
    TV room: SB3 > Denon Receiver > KEF eggs 5.1/ Wharfedale Diamonds
    Kitchen: RPi2 (Max2play), IQaudioDAC/Amp > KEF ceiling speakers
