C-Media and iLUV usb adapters with picoreplayer configuration

I have a total of three USB adapters. Two are C-Media and the other is made by iLUV.
Both of these types are recognized by picoreplayer on my Raspberry Pi 3 when I issue the command aplay -I as below:
    tc@piCorePlayer:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
    card 0: ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA], device 0: bcm2835 ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA]
    Subdevices: 7/7
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
    Subdevice #2: subdevice #2
    Subdevice #3: subdevice #3
    Subdevice #4: subdevice #4
    Subdevice #5: subdevice #5
    Subdevice #6: subdevice #6
    card 0: ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA], device 1: bcm2835 IEC958/HDMI [bcm2835 IEC958/HDMI]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Set [C-Media USB Headphone Set], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

and when I issue aplay -L:

    tc@piCorePlayer:~$ aplay -L
    null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
    sysdefault:CARD=ALSA
    bcm2835 ALSA, bcm2835 ALSA
    Default Audio Device
    sysdefault:CARD=Set
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
    Default Audio Device
    front:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
    Front speakers
    surround21:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
2.1 Surround output to Front and Subwoofer speakers
    surround40:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
    surround41:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround50:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers
    surround51:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround71:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers
    iec958:CARD=Set,DEV=0
C-Media USB Headphone Set, USB Audio
    IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output

    So picoreplayer is recognizing it.
I can select front:CARD=Set,DEV=0 and piCoreplayer accepts this and starts Squeezelite successfully.

However, nothing comes out of the headphone jack. I have the HDMI plug going to my TV and I get sound out of it.
I have seen others talk about getting the C-Media to work with Squeezeplug so I am curious about what I am missing in my setup.
By the way the iLUV adapter shows up as MicARRAY and can be selected but it does not work either. No headphone output.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glenn.

    Hi stampeder,

    a couple of suggestions:

On the pCP web page, scroll to the bottom and check you are on the "Beta" tab (ignore the warning if you are not)

Then return to the Squeezelite Settings

Under Audio output device settings you should have USB Audio in the box.

    Under Change Squeezelite setttings

Go to Output Settings and click on the red "more" word.

    Select an output from there.**

Scroll down and save, then reboot.

    **
If one option does not work, try another, just the ones for two channel output.

ssh into the pi (user tc passwd piCore)

    at the command prompt type

    Code:
    alsamixer
then the F6 key on your keyboard and select your device, see what options you are given for volume control.

Also, under the Squeezelite Settings tab.
in the Audio output device settings click on Card Control, you may have more options there

    good luck

    ronnie

    and welcome

there is a settings on the Tweaks page for c-media usb that may not be needed, but look anyway.
