piCore & LMS initial setup

Hi to all my first post here... nice to be in such an active forum!

My Synology NAS music folder path is volume1/music!
It is impossible to me to make LMS on my rpi3B+ to see it!
I tried installing LMS to the NAS too and there it shows instantly!
When I am putting the path username password on the "RPi/LMS/Network Disk Mount" setup it won't mount at all...

Can anyone point out what I am missing?

You didn't mention the OS you're using, nor what kind of connection
you're trying to establish (SMB, NFS, AFP...)

SMB connection
LMS is running in the same RPi as the piCore player.
It is an initial setup so that i get used to the LMS/picore environment and after i do so I will try to have LMS in another machine!

I installed LMS to my NAS too but it's available in an older version for Synology NAS and my NAS is not very powerful any way to handle LMS in a satisfying speed!

Ok, so you're running LMS on pCP, music on Synology? Pretty much the
configuration I have.

In DSM (Synology), set up NFS for the "music" share. Create NFS
Permissions to give your LMS computer's IP read-only access to it.

In pCP's LMS tab make sure you got the Additional Filesystems installed.
Then connect to your NAS using NFS, the NAS' IP address and
/volume1/music as the share name.

If you plan to use a different systems anyway, why not start with it
from the beginning? Otherwise all the effort put into configuring this
will be lost, right?

Michael thank you very much for your time!!!! As you can understand I am quite a noob.

Yes I did what you suggest.
Finally I decided to install LMS to an old (late 2009) Mac mini I had been using for audio source the past years before I start experimenting with Linux distros on rpi. With ssd and 8GB of RAM seems much better solution for LMS.
Everything is done much faster.
It scanned the NAS much faster but now it’s stuck in “Building full text index” step for quite some time (37 minutes at the time)! I don’t know what this is to be honest... may be I should abort.

The good thing is that I can play some music now.
I completely removed LMS from the RPi and now only piCore is running on it.


Another question ... how can I disable the software volume on piCore player? I couldn’t find it as an option...

Make sure you're running the latest macOS available, as some of the
older ones have outdated SSL libraries. They can be updated, but that's
quite a bit of work...

Please check the scanner.log (Settings/Information).

LMS should transcode them out of the box. Does this not work for you?

May be an admin can change the title of the thread because I am starting to get way off topic and I think it’s better not to open many different threads...
Something like “piCore & LMS initial setup” would be great.

Well I disabled the sw volume so OK.

Also I installed the Spotify and DSD plugins.
They work great.

Now I must find aiff and alac plug-ins because (unfortunately) I have some files (from my Apple only days) !

I guess it has something to do with protocol upgrade on nas. Probably you have to add an extra option to be able to mount the nas share. I can't reproduce that fast but sure somebody else will.

Back to the thread again!

I was wondering if I can have remote access to LMS while I am away from home!
Since I use iPeng local play feature it would be great have this capability!

If yes is there a setup guide to do so?

The most secure way is to do VPN. Openvpn is probably the most supported.
