Ubuntu 18.04 "Logitech Media Server died. Restarting." Perl?

    Hi all,

I just noticed that logitechmediaserver wasn't running, and I saw that /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log was full of lines saying: "Logitech Media Server died. Restarting."

I think it is something related to Perl, but I am not that familiar with Perl. I hope someone here can help me. I searched and found various suggestions on how to debug. Is there anyone who can help, or who have suggestions?

    My system:
    Ubuntu Server 18.04

    LMS installed from logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1559745322_amd64.deb

I start, stop and update using /etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver
    (script: logitechmediaserver.txt)

    $ perl -v
    This is perl 5, version 26, subversion 1 (v5.26.1) built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi

    /usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver --d_startup > squeezeboxserver_--d_startup.txt

    Thank you,
    Soren

What did change? Has this ever worked?

The log file indeed suggests the Perl modules were missing. Alas: we do
ship them for this platform. That should just work.

This is not a new installation, is it?

I upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 not that long ago, and remember having problems with php5.4, but I don't recall anything related to perl. I can see in the apt history log file that the packages libautodie-perl:amd64 (2.29-2) and libdata-alias-perl:amd64 (1.21-1) were autoremoved, but that's it.

Could it be looking for the modules in the wrong place? How would I check that?

Nope, it is very old, back from 10.04, I think. And it has worked alright before.

    Solved

    Hi Michael,

The fact that you were confused let me to think that maybe the deb-package was corrupted in a subtle way so I removed it with
    Code:
    dpkg -r logitechmediaserver
downloaded the latest package and installed it with
    Code:
    dpkg -i logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1559745322_amd64.deb
    and now it works!
So, I guess it must have been corruption from one of the rare unclean shutdowns.
    Thank you for your assistance!
