    Tidal Buffering Issue

    Hey all,

It's been a smooth year for me and my Squeezeboxen, but I'm experiencing a problem now that I can't debug - thought I'd ask the community for assistance.

Like it says in the title, Tidal, using the Tidal v1.2 plugin, buffers. Not all the time, but more often than not. Once it starts, nothing I can do will resolve it. I have no issues streaming local music, nor do I have an issue with Radio Paradise streaming FLAC files via the RP plugin.. Further, Tidal streaming directly to my laptop on the same network has no issues.

I'm running LMS 7.9.0 - 1488878280 on a WHS v1 machine. Taskmgr shows no overt load, nor any more than 0.5% networking activity.

I'm streaming to a SB Touch that's connected via ethernet powerline adapter.

    Any thoughts?

    TIA all!

    Similar Issues

I recently upgraded my Tidal account to flac and I've experienced some of the same problems with Tidal buffering. I'm streaming wireless to an SB3 using proxied streaming. LMS on a Windows 10 desktop running 7.9 hardwired to router. All local flac files stream fine, Radio Paradise flac streams fine and Tidal directly to my laptop works fine. I typically access Tidal through ickStream - not sure if that matters or not. The problem is intermittent - hours of Tidal streaming with no issues at all and then rebuffering. Generally after rebuffering it will jump to the next track on the playlist and stream fine for some period of time. I'm somewhat suspicious of short internet dropouts causing the problems - someone on the forum mentioned the SB3's have a small buffer so even short dropouts could cause streaming issues. Not sure why it would only impact Tidal streams and not other streaming services. I need to install an uptime monitor on my laptop to try to see if there is a correlation between dropouts and streaming problems.

FWIW, I have the exact same setup at a vacation property with LMS on a Windows 10 laptop with the same issues.

As an aside, tidal seems to buffer more when it's been playing for a while via Don't Stop the Music.

First thing would be to upgrade to a version of LMS newer than 7.9.0 which is March 2017 - 2 years old - lots of small bug fixes since then,

Hmmm, I have to test this. I use Don't Stop the Music regularly - perhaps that's the culprit. Today 74 tracks into a 105 song playlist created on Tidal with no issues at all. FWIW, I also updated LMS to 7.9.1 from 7.9.0 last night so perhaps that helped.

That would be very surprising to me. What mixer are you using with DSTM?
You might want to enable some logging for DSTM and the mixer used to see
whether their activity coincide with the hiccups.

I'm using LastMix - Don't Stop The Music support using Last.fm. I have selected Tidal, DSTM, and LastMix for debug. I'm very much a novice with regards to logging and evaluating the results. Do I need to make a selection on the first item of the logging menu "Please Select a log set"? Thanks.

Set LastMix to INFO only, or it'll flood your log files... And once
you've reproduced the issue make sure to reset those settings. There's a
choice for this in that dropdown you mentioned.

Ok - I will experiment with this tomorrow. Tidal streamed flac perfectly today on a long playlist that I stopped before DSTM had a chance to add any tracks.
