    Logitech Media Server local player crashing after 24-36 hours of playing.

    Hello all,

    I have installed latest nightly build of Logitech media server and I use local player plugin to listen to my music locally.
    It is installed on Fedora 29 system.

    Code:
    Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1552283404 @ Mon Mar 11 07:14:43 CET 2019
    Hostname: melissa2
    Server IP Address: 10.182.44.7
    Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
    Operating system: Red Hat - EN - utf8
    Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
    Perl Version: 5.28.1 - x86_64-linux-thread-multi
    Audio::Scan: 1.02
    IO::Socket::SSL: 2.060
    Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)
    Total Players Recognized: 0
    Also I have observing tremendous RAM usage when LMS is running - about 5-6 GB usage of RAM ( yes, gigabytes, not megabytes )

    Here is the output of local player log ( debug all=info )
    Code:
    /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/LocalPlayer/Bin/squeezelite-x86-64 -d all=debug -f /var/log/squeezeboxserver/localplayer.log -s melissa2.local -o hw:0,0 -m 00:52:04:45:CF:99 -n VBPLAYER

    I'm guessing that something is not ok with WMA files ( despite of above errors, songs are playing ). May be I should disable WMA entirely.
    The only workaround for now is restarting the squeezeboxserver service

    Many thanks for any feedback or advises regarding this problem.

    Using an old plugin for wma is not best nowadays. I think you should get a build of squeezelite which handles WMA.

    Thanks for your response.

    ouh, I guessed that built local player supports WMA.

    Can you tell me how to obtain such version of Squeezeplay?

    The "right" version of squeezelite will have WMA built-in but not sure where Local PLayer gets its version of squeezelite - maybe it's not included in its build. Try the latest ones from here https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms...s/squeezelite/

    AFAICT, nobody has bothered adding WMA to squeezeplay as it's hard and as squeezelite has far more capabilities already, the effort is not worth it. I think users have squeezelite running in the background/service and then run either a Web UI (especiually with new Material skin) or Jivelite (the Squeezeplay UI no player).

    Thank you for your reply. Actually I made a typo ( meant Squeezelite not Squeezeplay ) in my post.
    Will compile my own with native WMA support , however I tried to those one provided in Fedora 29 rpm but situation is same as using builded squeezelite player in LMS:

    Ok, then comes the next question: Why, despite of native FLAC support, in Squeezelite, LMS convertion from WMA to FLAC is not working - no sound was played and all files in playlist are played with 0:00 minutes time of playing.

    Name:  NOT_Working_WMA.PNG
Views: 377
Size:  5.7 KB

    Play is only working when only MP3 conversion is enabled. Please see next screen:

    Name:  Working_WMA.PNG
Views: 379
Size:  5.3 KB

    I also use WEB base playing via http://mylmserver/stream.mp3 link ( Foobar, VLC and any other players which support streaming) They have only one choice - MP3. Then same error will be produced when trying to play WMA files:

    Code:
    Mar 27 21:04:51 melissa2 squeezeboxserver[925]: Local File: Launching mplayer -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:file=/dev/fd/3 /storage/music/mp3/mp3_disks/Disk073/SORHIN/I Det Glimrande Morkrets Djup/Sorhin - I Det Glimrande Morkrets Djup - 10 - I Det Glimrande Morkrets Djup.wma
    Mar 27 21:04:51 melissa2 squeezeboxserver[925]: do_connect: could not connect to socket
    Mar 27 21:04:51 melissa2 squeezeboxserver[925]: connect: No such file or directory
    Mar 28 16:08:58 melissa2 squeezeboxserver[925]: double free or corruption (out)
    Mar 28 16:08:58 melissa2 systemd-coredump[22869]: Process 1625 (squeezelite-x86) of user 991 dumped core.
    I have to admit that I'm very confused with all those conversions and a little more explanation will be most of welcomed.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Not sure what you mean. The detail you provided does not indicate what options were used int he build of squeezelite. If LMS thinks the squeezelite player does not support WMA it is because the player did not repott that it could play WMA. The following is a definitive way to check what is reported to LMS.

    Below is using the prebuilt squeezelite for Linux x86_64 from ralphy's site. https://sourceforge.net/projects/lms...s/squeezelite/

    Code:
    Minitower:~$ ./squeezelite -d slimproto=info -o hw:CARD=Audio,DEV=0

    Note at the end of the last line in red indicates which shows that 3 types of WMA decode is supported.

    Please run squeezelite on your system with the "-d slimproto=info" option and if WMA is not show, build a version with WMA support.

    Standard LMS does not support WMA transcoding.

    The PlayWMA plugin provides transcoding using mplayer - but it requires a working mplayer but it may not work on some variants of Linux - I don't know about Fedora. The issue is not FLAC support but failure of transcoding. It may be better to use ffmpeg rather than mplayer.

    Deal with one problem at a time. It is best to get a version of Squeezelite with working WMA decode.

    When a WMA enabled player is working then if you absolutely need WMA transcoding for some other players (e.g. SB1) - a separate sets of post will be necessary to test whether ffmpeg or mplayer works on your system, has the right options, and if so how to set it up.

    Well, prebuilt binary did work, and now I'm able playing WMA files natively. However new "feature" occurred with this version of Squeezelite - playback is stopping after end of the current song. Playing the next song does not start after that, I need to press >> button to start it. This is odd.

    IMHO Installed prebuilt mplayer package for Fedora 29 is working since I'm able to start playing from shell. Also conversion from WMA --> MP3 is working - sound is listenable, the problem is this produce error for do_connect: could not connect to socket.

    Code:
    wma mp3 * *
            # F:{PATH=%f}R:{PATH=%F}B:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}U:{DURATION=-endpos %w}
            [wmamplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null $START$ $DURATION$ -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:file=/dev/fd/3 $PATH$ | [lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ $BITRATE$ - -
    wma flc * *
            # F:{PATH=%f}R:{PATH=%F}T:{START=-ss %s}U:{DURATION=-endpos %w}
            [wmamplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null $START$ $DURATION$ -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:file=/dev/fd/3 $PATH$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 --ignore-chunk-sizes -
    Summarizing the situation:

    • Current Squeezelite player works with WMA native, but does not play next song in playlist.

    • Web players does not play WMA audio when FLAC conversion is enabled in Setings->Advanced->FileTypes

    • Web players does play WMA when FLAC is disabled in Setings->Advanced->FileTypes and MP3 enabled ( proof for mplayer proper working )

    I'm a step away from moving LMS to different distribution to see if there is something wrong with current configuration or audio libraries. Totally messed

    1. Playlist issues is strange a needs separate investigation as it si a separate issue. Have you confirmed that non WMA (say MP3) playlist play OK with same player ? Is this localised to this player ? Does it happen with "real" player (I.e. not Web)

    2. AFAICT Fedora is not widely used by LMS with WMA users. Clearly the PlayWMA plugin with mplayer does not work with Fedora. I think custom-convert.conf with mplayer will have be replaced with new/different custom-convert.conf with ffmpeg which may avoid OS/distro specific stuff.

    3. Have you checked whether the LMS supplied Flac works on your system - a Fedora supplied Flac binary may not have patches required to work properly with LMS . Again Fedora may be the issue.

    Please decide - if you are moving away from LMS / Fedora - say so - so I won't waste my time. I won't do anything until you decide.

    Hello bpa,

    thank you for your response. I really do not want to waste time on anyone here In the end everything is on a voluntary basis.

    1.
    • Unfortunately, I don't have hardware player, only "virtual" player Squeezelite, which is running on machine where the sound card is installed. Yes, it can plays all other formats in mixed playlist ( MP3, Vorbis, FLAC, WAV ) without stopping the playlist, but it stops after playing the WMA song. This is when following settings are enabled in Setings->Advanced->FileTypes

    • It plays without playlist interruption all formats ( including WMA), when only MP3 transcodding is enabled in Setings->Advanced->FileTypes like this.

    So no matter of what player is connected, it will take lossy --> lossy conversion ( WMA to MP3 ) which is not a pain for dying, but I would prefer to get native support, without playlist interruption.

    2. I have to admit that nowhere during my 3 day's googling found that WMA is not well supported on Fedora. Maybe I'm missing something. Ok, then what distribution would you recommend for this. I'm not addicted to Fedora or Centos or any other distro. Always installing this one which is best for particular task.

    3. Yes, I think than LMS is using its own ( patched ) FLAC binary according to this:

    Code:
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/squeezeboxserver.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
       Active: active (running) since Sun 2019-03-31 16:56:51 EDT; 20h ago
     Main PID: 15051 (squeezeboxserve)
        Tasks: 5 (limit: 4915)
       CGroup: /system.slice/squeezeboxserver.service
               ├─ 1628 /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/x86_64-linux/flac -dcs -- /storage/music/flac/The Dubliners/30 years A-Greying (CD 1)/The Dubliners - 30 years A-Greying (CD 1) - 02 - Eilee

    I'll put in the the time as long as I know it is worth it. Solving problems takes time. Other users play WMA natively so there is something in your setup that is causing problems.

    Tackle one problem at a time - otherewsie you'll be changing things for one problem and it may alter the other.

    Ignore the WMA playlist issue until other WMA issue is solved.

    You have not shown any proof of this. With WMA Flac enabled. Please enable LMS logging player.source set to INFO. Note time before trying to play, try to play a WMA track, stop and then note time. Copy ALL text (no editing/omission) between start time and stop time into a text file, zip it an attach to a post.

    WMA is dead. It was never really alive on non-Windows platforms (e.g. all Linux) because MS made codecs proprietary but they have been reverse engineered in ffmpeg (which is also used by VLC and mplayer).

    To check this please run flac at a shell prompt and copy the banner to a post. Showing a procress tree does not give version etc. proof that it is an up to date LMS provided binary.
