    BBC - 3 stations 403 forbidden

At least 3 BBC stations have had their mp3 streaming urls changed. Radio 5live, Radio 5live Sports Extra & BBC Radio 4 LW. I can't find any announcement from the Beeb with an explanation.

BBC never announce these sort of things.

Looking at the BBC imda feed for Radio 3

    UK - 320kbps
    http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediasele...adio_three.pls

    Non UK - 128kbps
    http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediasele...adio_three.pls

Time to update the BBCiPlayer plugins

AFAICT Only Radio 3 have UK only URls.

What URLS are you using for 5live ?

IIRC 5Live sports Extra was always UK only

If you are trying to listenting to some sports commentaries which are uK only - you may get a rights issue message if you are outside the UK.
You may also get problem with VPNs or are in the UK but are using mysqueezebox.com

So more details needed if you want a more defintiive answer.

Radio 5 live:http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?...3&partnerId=16 BBC has a recorded loop when copyright restrictions apply.

I've been using this url since they changed from WMA. Of course BBC want to only have their HLS, HDS and MPEG-DASH for internet radio sets, it must be coming to the end of their 2/3 year mp3 codec extension.

"MP3 at 128kbs was chosen following advice from a number of internet radio device manufacturers regarding the codec and streaming protocols supported by the largest possible number of their legacy devices. Newer internet radio devices should be able to make use of the HLS and/or MPEG-DASH protocols using the higher quality AAC+ codec." BBC Sounds help.

    http://www.suppertime.co.uk/blogmywi...rk-radio-urls/ has been recommended elsewhere.

The BBC are always changing their mind. They'd prefer users to use DASH but are forced to also support HLS because of Apple. Because of the outcry when they switched WMA off - they provided MP3 - initially for a short period but they have not said they will kill it off as there are too many internet radio which don't support DASH or HLS.

The URL you have aproblem is via Tune-in and it seems to have a problemn but that would be an issue with Tune-in.

That said, the correct BBC 5 live URL ( http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediasele..._five_live.pls ) - nearly always playe a rights restirction message as they are providing sports commentaries which are not available outside the UK (currently champions league match) . It works in the morning.

If you are using mysqueezebox.com - you have no choice but to play the MP3 stream but you could use the BBC applet which may be more up to date.

If you are using a local LMS - then you coudl installed the BBCiPlayer polugin and play stream in HLS, DASH or MP3 as well as access Listen Again programs.

One assumes that as they are the channels that carry sports comentaries that has something to do with it ..?

Looks like they're tightening up ahead of all the international sports coming out of the UK this summer ...

Thank you for the Tune-In info , a little knowledge etc & apologies to Auntie for suggesting that she would change codecs without publicizing this fact.

I listento Radio 5 live most late evenings, especially Steven Nolan interviews & phones-in. Ocassionally there are sports commentaries, then we get the copyright loop announcement. Will try BBC applet.

The Tune-in URL plays OK for me on my local LMS.

Maybe there was an error on Tune-ins side and it now has been cleared.
