    of course.

I need to replace the mdns server (I have tweaked a portable one that i use in my airplay bridge, maybe it good enough) but more complicated seems to be some low level system calls ... I anybody can shade some light, that would be appreciated.
I'm not familiar with (sh)airport, but I'd be happy to help with anything Linux related (20+y experience).

I'll try to come up with something.

    my prios are:
    1. no stutter on recent toolchain
    2. OTA updates
    3. display

I am still happy as a clam with the system (when using philippes .bin file to avoid stutter - which happened to me also w/ 5.2 toolchain, but to a lesser extend))

What I would be really interested in:
    1. mini-webserver for wifi SSID / PW updates
    2. OTA (for software-upates for bare-bone systems installed in a case w/o option to access RX/TX wires aso)

I am actually working on a bootloader partition that does exactly that!

    That sounds great!
Can't wait tying it - currently waiting for more ESP modules to arrive.

    One question for understanding, though:
From what I read here the current bins are close to exceeding 2MB. To my understanding you need bin-size x 2 amount of memory for OTA.
I currently use WROVER with 4MB flash (and 8MB PSRAM)...
-> Can you use PSRAM to store the OTA update?
-> Or do we need then WROVER w/ 8MB flash? (is that even available?)

ok, here is the fully functionnal board

    network: WiFi,
    input: SqueezeLite, BTSink
output : Built-in amplifier, SPDIF, analogue line-out, BT
Vcc 5..20v (depends if you want battery or not)
    3-cells Li-Ion battery supply & charger

There was a tiny snafu with spdif, but that was a minor issue

    Well done.

Can you take a photo with a Pi or tape measure or something else with well known size just to give a better idea of it?

    Excellent.
Plenty of places where that could be hidden.
I know you said that a Pi0 plus HAT could end up being cheaper but it is very impressive what can be achieved by someone without the benefits of scale or close relationship with manufacturers.

just wow. that is awesome. how does the amp put out 25W thru those TSOP legs?? or is it PWM + MOSFET + filter?

Thanks - I'd class-D, so yes PWM,MOSFET,Filter, hence excellent yield, but still heat will be an issue at high power. Candidely, I don't know how it will behave at constant high power, I would think a fan is needed. I'm not using it at super high volume
