Starting out a little history but mostly questions!

So, got my wife her first squeezebox radio 8? years ago. She wanted another and I said 'get a sonos' - She wouldn't have none of that. So I got a second Squeezebox radio off of ebay. This second one was the first one that I got the chance to REALLY play with, the first one I just hit a preset and adjusted the volume. in any event that made me decide I needed one too. :) So we now have 3. There's just something about a radio with buttons, knobs and a display that makes us happier with the Squeezebox... I'm a technical person but not everything needs to be controlled by my smartphone.

Through the years I've installed LMS on windows machines, ReadyNAS's, Synology Nas's but always wound up just going back to myqueezebox.com - I see that there is a community supported edition. the only link I see to download that is a 'nightly build' , There's no 'stable' build I can get? where would I get it?

Do I need the community build to be able to use Spotify? do I need the community supported version for this?

Is there a way to play apple .m3u8 streams? (that would be awesome - that might solve the siriusXM issue) - I thought I read somewhere that LMS will transcode m3u8 streams??? Do I need the community version for this?

Is there a getting started 2018 wiki or something that would answer all these questions?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Can't answer all your questions, but I would recommend getting a Raspberry Pi, installing piCorePlayer and using that to run LMS. That'll support Spotty, internet radio and mysqueezebox.com and at a cheap price. Doesn't use too much power either, I leave mine on 24-7.

I agree that there's not much out there with the useful form factor of the Squeezebox Radio. We have one as a bedside alarm/radio and another in the kitchen. Personally, I mostly listen to local music files on a NAS, and I have a range of players from Squeezeboxes to Raspberry Pi devices.

Thank you very much for this! Just two days ago one of my managers asked
me what the secret was about SB. Why there were still that many units
actively being used out there. You gave the perfect response! Had to
    forward it to him :-)

Hmm... I thought we had a sticky posting somewhere, but can't find it
myself... Anyway: there's the official release 7.7.6, but 7.9.x comes
with a number of improvements, in particular if you want Spotify. 7.9.1
    is stable
    (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/Log...Server_v7.9.1/), 7.9.2
nightly has a few minor improvements, but usually is pretty stable, too
    (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nig...ex.php?ver=7.9)

No need, but recommended: 7.9.x has a few tweaks without which you eg.
    couldn't search within a track.

I think there is a plugin, yes, but I'm not sure about SiriusXM. Haven't
    seen anybody mention it recently.

    Michael,
interesting that you are even asked this question.

Is Logitech keeping track of the active units or how does he even know (and why does he bother since they decided to discontinue a PERFECT system).

I love my Squeezebox setup every single day, more and more.

Just not so long ago I started listening to podcasts and also started to use the Squeezbox system for it. The fact that everything is always available on every player, that all players can run synchronous in all rooms in the house, or not if 5 people want to listen to different music they actually bought as CDs or MP3s, is just great. Being able to either push buttons or to use some of the perfect apps like Squeeze Ctrl makes it ultra versatile and flexible, catering for pretty much everybodies preference. I am not sure if this is entirely true but maybe it is also about the way people listen to music and how they appreciate it. I still listen to entire albums, I even love to read the lyrics while listening to them. So I want to have my collection of some +30k mp3s always ready and available. Running LMS on a Synology NAS works perfect for this.

Add on top of this a still active community that supports each other (1000 thanks to you for still hanging in and giving excellent support) and even comes up with new stuff (Chromecast support for example) all without a big merchandise machine that tries to milk money for every shitty little piece of hardware or addon in my mind makes the Squeezebox ecosystem superior to everything that is out there.
Wouldn't it be great if it was picked up again and even brought forward with another nice player to replace the aging BOOMs.

I will keep using Squeezebox and will keep on buying used units.

Thanks to all of you who keep this alive and who keep improving it. If I was able to program code I would certainly try to add something too.

    Cheers,

    Merc

There is the PlayHLS plugin however it won't solve your siriusxm issue. Sirius dropped squeezebox support several years ago. I use the WaveInput plugin to stream from a siriusxm radio using a sound card and the Shairtunes2W plugin to send airplay audio to the squeezebox from the siriusxm ipad app. These are all available from the 3rd party plugins section within LMS.

Glad I could help Michael! the last two radios were purchased in the last 2 weeks... so we now have three of the 'rare' red Squeezebox Radios. And thank you for the links to the 'stable' community builds.

I'm looking to transode siriusXM into a M3U8 stream. that plugin hopefully is what I need. I'll be sure to post if I have success. Right now I'm upgrading my Synology 1512+ to the BTRFS file system, I've bumped it's ram to 4gb. but I suspect I'll just wind up using my server to run all this.

It's just me checking the number every now and then. I do have a status
page where I see mysqueezebox service health. Part of this page is a
    count of connected devices.

Logitech still spends quite a bit of money on that infrastructure. It's
perfectly fair to let them know what we are spending that money for. Any
other reason would be pure speculation.

I run my Squeeze stuff pretty much just using my local library, but do have LMS / MySB.com UID and PW properly set. Will your stats see my 2 Duet systems or do you only see stuff that plays through MySB.com?
Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 7.9.1 Official on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets and Squeeseslave
    Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 7.9.1 Official on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model B/Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave
Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin)

No. And that's pretty much why I can't say how many active devices there
    still are.
