    Michael, I've tried updating to the April 5th daily for ReadyNas and it failed the same as it did a year ago.

    I have been able to Putty into the NAS server, and some basic Unix/Linux knowledge from 20+ years ago. there is no slimoptions file, I only get the following. I'd really appreciate commands for bash that would help me find the SLIMOPTIONS - sorry if this is a bit naive but I'm really a windows guy.

    Once you're logged in as root on your ReadyNAS, run the following:

    vi /etc/default/squeezeboxserver

    Then the difficult part begins... vi. Here's a cheat sheet:
    http://www.atmos.albany.edu/daes/atm...heat_sheet.pdf

    Basically navigate down to the SLIMOPTIONS line, then press "i" to get
    in insert mode. Type the additions you want. Then hit ESC, ":", "wq" to
    get out of insert mode, and to "w"rite and "q"uit vi. Then restart LMS
    using the ReadyNAS tools.

    Could you please edit /etc/default/squeezeboxserver, to add
    "--d_startup" to the SLIMOPTIONS? This should give you more log output,
    hopefully telling us why it is failing.

    --

    Michael
    I did this by using cat rather than vi. I copied the original file, rm the original and then created a new via cat.
    ReadyNas-MSC:/etc/default# cat squeezeboxserver
    SLIMUSER=root

    SLIMOPTIONS="--d_startup"

    restarting LMS via the netgear Frontview just gets this via the slimserver.log

    That wouldn't really modify the file, would it? Or is this the output of
    the cat command already?

    Now that you're in, what would "perl -v" tell you? What about "ldd
    --version"?

    Which ReadyNAS LMS package did you install?

    For perl it replies

    "This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi"

    and for the package, last week I tried to install logitechmediaserver-7.9.2-1554450933-i386-readynas.bin
    and have dropped back to logitechmediaserver-7.9.1-1494667952-i386-readynas.bin. This has worked without problem since last year, until 10-days or so when the BBC started redirecting iPlayer to https.

    With respect to your comment on my post about BBC iPlayer, yes, I've had this NAS since 2008, the hardware has worked almost flawlessly, I had to replace one drive that failed, but no data loss, and I back it up to an identical NAS sat on the same LAN segment. I hadn't even heard about LMS until I found it on the ReadyNas and enabled it back in 2008. It's been an amazing experience and a fantastic piece of software. I've long expected the NAS would run out of memory, and have a replacement Windows server on order just for LMS.

    That said, I wanted to keep the LMS up to date so that when I migrate I can use the same build on both systems. Hence trying this upgrade again.

    To answer your questions above.

    Yes, thats the output of the cat command on the Readynas while running the 7.9.2 build. vi is great if you grew up using it and byte terminal. As a longtime IBM mainframe firware/software developer, I just can't. Even though I was part of the IBM design/development effort for our Unix System Services back in the early 90's I never really felt at home with it. I'm fine with bourne/bash shell commands.

    Thanks for all your help and support!

    That's really odd. I jut double-checked, and the latest change to the
    binaries for this platform date back almost five years - by far longer
    than your build.

    Would the latest 7.9.1 release work for you
    (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/Log...rver_v7.9.1/)?

    I'll see whether I can find a way to run LMS from a terminal window.

    Interesting that 7.9.1 would work but 7.9.2 not.

    Could you please tell me what "/usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver --d_startup"
    would give you when run with 7.9.2?

    Just to close out this thread. I suspect this problem was caused by a lack of resources in the constrained ReadyNas OS 4.

    I didn't pursue this, and had to reset the ReadyNas, and re-install the software which can be done without losing the data stored on the NAS.
