They can't change that from their end - unless they provide their very
own full re-write of a Deezer plugin for LMS.
Please ask them to get in touch with me with details about how we can
access the new features.

New API?
Could this be interesting to develop a new plugin for Deezer HiFi?

Thank you very much for the heads up! Unfortunately I still can't find
any info on the dev pages. I now wrote to Rudi to see whether he can
help me out.

No answer yet, but new findings in the responses from the Deezer API. I
just played a first FLAC track from Deezer. Now the real work to provide
Deezer HiFi begins :-). (I can't guarantee a Christmas present!)

Yeah, great news, indeed. The first time I built a RPi PCP Squeezebox was because I wanted to try out Deezer HiFi on it, but then it was a big disappointment when I found out that the plugin didn't support HiFi because of Deezer developers' lack of interest. I find it funny that a few days ago they posted this:
Also, a side note, isn't Logitech dropping support for the LMS service?

Deezer app
If you feel adventurous:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nig...ex.php?ver=8.1
That's the dev version with new features, like eg. Deezer HiFi support
;-). Please note that it can be rough, and I can't guarantee that it's
stable at all times. But I would be happy to get your feedback. You can
go back to stable 8.0 at any time by installing it on top of 8.1.

Oh boy! I went ahead and installed 8.1 and restarted a Deezer HiFi 30-day trial. Then I tested a few albums:
It does show up as FLAC (yay!) about half of the time, but the other half I got a 320 mp3 stream instead. In one of my tests the stream initially showed up as FLAC, but then after a few seconds it changed to 320 mp3, or that's what the LMS media info display showed me, though. I tried to dig into the LMS or mysqueezebox settings to choose or force my preferred format (FLAC stream) but I couldn't find any such option. Progress!

The times I see an mp3, I think the behavior is as follows:
1- Click on play an entire album.
2- Playback starts. For a few seconds I see a FLAC label, but then it changes to 320 mp3 for the rest of the song.
3- From the second song on, I see only FLAC.
Meaning that I get an mp3 only on the first song of a playlist or album. The rest plays fine as FLAC.
