    LMS 7.9 server.prefs question

If I try to take a shortcut when setting up a new LMS server and I copy the server.prefs from an existing server, I find that the two servers can't discover each other or their connected players on the LAN.

    Can I just delete the..

    server_uuid:
    securitySecret:

..entries from the copied server.prefs to fix this? Or are there other entries that ought to be cleaned too?

These certainly are the most important. Any value involving a path or IP
address might be worth considering, too.

I wonder why you'd have to this often to make this worth the hassle?

I built and manage about a dozen LMS servers for various friends and their media collections. Every two years or so, when a new Ubuntu server LTS version comes out, I build new boot/OS/app SSD drives for all the servers and slowly replace them when I next visit. I try to build a single disk image and just clone that rather than building each boot drive from scratch.

    Hi,
    just a minor tip:
    • do the master once from scratch
    • type all the needed commands into a textfile
    • make that textfile executable
    • put it on a stick
    • run that script for each other pc
    • very helpful if you add something like openvpn or "special" plugins to the setup

Thats the way i build my system and i just had to alter that a tiny bit for the "next" release.
