    Another dead Boom

    Hi,

Returned from holiday the other day, and on powering on my Boom again noticed that there was nothing on the display. I've had a look around the other threads here, and most people seem to get some sign of life (lights on the buttons etc.) when this happens, but I'm seeing nothing.

I'm taking the unit to work tomorrow, first thing will be to test the power supply. I'm hoping it's as simple as this having died.

If it's not the power supply, what else can I do to resurrect it? I've seen mention of removing the WiFi card (I use it wired anyway so that would be no loss). Is this a simple matter? How tricky are they to disassemble and put back together?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Andy

    Hi,

Sorry to hear of your Boom's demise, fingers crossed it's just the power adapter (have you tried wriggling the power plug connector in the back of the Boom, they can get dirty and lose contact).

There's a few threads around here that cover dis-assembly and repair...

PBroughton's thread "Anyone Fixing Booms?" is probably the best for strip down (pictures start on Page 10 post #95) and in the same thread JoeMuc2009 (page 21 post #209) has links to his technology blog where he discusses issues with and fixes for the Boom, also worth clicking on Joe's name and viewing his forum posts - he often chimes in on repair discussions.

There's another dead boom discussion here: https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...8698-Boom-Died

    Good luck

    Hi,

    Thanks for the response.

Thankfully, it does seem to be the power supply. Using a voltmeter at work suggests it's giving no output.

I think I've found an appropriate one to test it, is the spec of the power supply on the 'Net anywhere? The one I've found appears to have the positive output as the 'inner' of the plug. Is this the correct polarity?

    Thanks

    Andy

Replying to myself, but found the following post:

    https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...l=1#post364633

That confirms the polarity of the supply I've found is correct. So I bit the bullet and plugged it in, and the Boom sprang to life instantly! Will try to source an appropriate replacement, but this is obviously excellent news!

    Cheers

Thanks for that, useful to know I'd be able to get an 'official' one if necessary. Price seems a little steep though, but I guess it depends on whether I want to take a chance on an eBay seller sending the correct one...

    Thanks

It's seems strange but my Boom is resuscitated when I've inserted a jack in line in....

Completely resurrected? It will stream from network? Or it only works from Line In? Might be the network card is broken but does not affect Line In.

    Completely! Stream from network!
I turn on boom -> blink led and no button works -> put a jack in line in -> reboot and works! I've no idea why...
