It's not ideal. The best is to buy a cheap usb extension cable 10cm is enough

Yes it can, Sdiesel77 used a USB FLirc becuase he did not want to do any soldering etc.

Its done in a different way though, using lirc in PiCoreplayer

EDIT: Its done with an IR Receiver though

The receiver gives me the opportunity to place it in the best position. Perhaps there is a part list and button config file anywhere or a how to to get that to work? A lot of the times just a basic remote is enough and I can put it in the room.

This is very simple now with direct lirc support in PiCorePlayer and Ralphys lirc.conf.

Get yourself a IR receiver, I use TSOP38438 Farnell has them here http://uk.farnell.com/vishay/tsop384...ngdom%2Fsearch

    Datasheet is here https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...51_qf_5Ejacky4

Connect Vs to Pi GPIO pin 17 (3v3)
Connect GND to Pi GPIO pin 20 (Ground)
Connect OUT to Pi GPIO pin 22 (GPIO25)

Install lirc from the PCP GUI

Then you will need to get the conf file from https://github.com/ralph-irving/tcz-...ite-justboomIR

and rename it lircd.conf then copy it to the Pi using SCP to the /tmp/ directory and then hit the "Custom" button on the lirc page in the PCP GUI

Boom ! You should have your JustBoomIR remote working.

Don't think I've forgotten anything but.....

    Thanks.

I've ordered a JustBoom remote and the Flirc USB, but I'm having second thoughts on the remote, there's no play, stop, next, skip back buttons, how do you manage without these?

Can I programme a Squeezebox Touch remote, it has all the buttons?

    Ta.

Yep can be done by using these commands on the left right arrows (of the JustBoom remote).

    < -------------- jump_rew (left arrow on remote)

    > -------------- jump_fwd (right arrow on remote)

So up and down buttons scroll through a list, centre button enters the list, back button is the curved arrow, pop-up context menu is the button on the left above the volume buttons?

I should have the Flirc tomorrow (Amazon Prime). I'll try programming the SB Touch remote. JustBoom remote not with me until Weds.

Exact. On my new config, I replaced pop up menu remote button by Favourites on the same button.
And changes Stop on mute button by Pause
