I'm logging in with the default admin userid. I've tried various different arguments for chmod and have never succeeded in changing permissions for "everyone." Even if I specify it it doesn't change.

Something hasn't worked on your chmod command - 0755 should give you permissions of rwxrwxr-x not rwxrwx---

Are you by chance logging into the QNAP using a different User to the default Admin?

It's good security practice to create a new user and use that for general use on the QNAP and disable the default Admin account, however, there is no sudoers group on a QNAP so you can't make your new user an elevated user, some commands such as chmod need that elevation and won't work from such users even of you've made them an Administrator.
So if you've done this to your QNAP, the simplest way to get round this is to re-enable the default Admin account and login using that to complete your elevated command - don't forget to disable the default Admin account when you've finished.

The only other thing could be ACL, try installaling the plugin.

Who knows I remember some where in this forum another user with the same trouble.

I reinstalled and installed the ACL plugin. I can see the music files now. Thank you. I had given up. From my experience with Picoreplayer I got to like LMS as a DLNA alternative. I'm glad to have NAS capability. I worked in an AS/400 shop for a long time and, while I'm not used to NIX security, the AS/400 approach is very similar with user group and user access to objects on the system controlled at that level.

A small question/suggestion.

Its possible to build and included the perl modules.
Through that way all the flavors could be upgraded to the latest perl version 5.32.
But on the other hand, it means more work for me.
As on a change, have to rebuild and releases a new update version.

I'm intressed how many off you would like this ?

I use my QNAP for file storage and running QLMS. So what makes QLMS work I’m in for. I don’t need Perl for something else.

I mean upgrading perl to a version to work with LMS.
In newer version there are newer perl modules in LMS.
LMS could benefited form it.
For example audio-scan latest version is 1.05.

Almost all arm nas have older software.
And there are systems which are not support anymore.
For example the x-09,x-19 and x86.

I use my QNAP for file storage and running QLMS. So what makes QLMS work I’m in for. I don’t need Perl for something else.

+ Included Perl 5.34 in all flavors
+ Build/complied LMS perl modules for all flavors to support perl 5.34
( armv5tel, armv7/8, aarch64/arm64, x86/i686 and amd64/X86_64 )
- This way all the flavors are the same in version and function.
- Keep in mind I've tested this on my QNap TS-453A a X86_64 system.
! If perl 5.34 wont work, it will go back to the latest supported Perl.
