Hi forum, you are my only hope :-)
My Boom died :-( When I plug in power, display is dark. However, background light of the buttons is flashing.
I tried resets ==> no chance
I measured power of the power adapter, seemed ok, but tried it with a (proven to be working) secondary adapter ==> no difference
a) is this a somehow known problem ? If yes can I fix this ?
b) If not: who is repairing such devices ?
Thanks in advance and best regards
Oliver

I understand the is a WiFi module on a daughter card inside that can come loose over the years and prevent booting. Open it up and reseat or remove it?

@Grunzi
I have set up a blog post on how to replace the display in a Squeezebox Boom. You may use this for disassembly guidance as there are some things to consider. http://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/2016/06/logitech-squeezebox-boom-vfd-display.html
The Wi-Fi board is on the backside of the board. Usually it is stuck down firmly with two or three foam pads, and also held in its connector with metal clips on both sides. As there are ICs on the main board, hidden under the foam pads, be extra careful when dealing with the pads.
I usually push the metal clips outwards on both sides so the board can be removed out of the connector. The I pull the Wi-Fi card edge on the other side up with careful force until the foam pads tear up. Make sure the metal clips are not what keeps the Wi-Fi board down, otherwise you might damage them, or even worse, tear the entire connector off the main board. So be sure to check that they are completely open.
No worries about the destroyed foam pads then, nobody knows why they considered putting them in that place because the card connector's metal clips hold the board firmly in place and there is no extra need to secure the board. I'd leave it at that and eventually put the board back in without fixing the foam pads.
Please let us all know whether removing the Wi-Fi board brought life back into your Boom
Good luck!
And have a nice weekend, everyone!
Cheers
Joe

Oh, by the way, my photos show a board where the antennas have been removed previously. You will see two small antenna wires connected to the board, one antenna sitting on top of the card connector, the other one at the top edge of the main board. Be sure to undo the antenna connectors carefully as they are not made to disconnect and reconnect many times, and they easily deform when handled improperly which makes it hard to plug them back in safely.

Partial success
Hi,
first of all: a big thank you !
I was able to bring the display back to live by removing the wlan card
However, while removing I think I killed the antenna connectors :-(
Question:
(1) Where do I get spare wlan cards ? Is this recommend or this the problem the connector ? Is this the correct card:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/TP-LINK-WLAN...8AAOSwnF9Y8fta
Chipset: Atheros AR5005G
(2) What debris do I need to remove from the antenna connectors ?
THANK YOU !!
Kind regards

See http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...mp-Transporter
edit:
At first glance it looks like a possible mathc. At €6.99 it is worth trying out - since it is a PCI cards - it will not break anything if the chipset is not supported by firmware.
Boards which are physically very similar (i.e same chip layout) - have best chance of being compatible.Last edited by bpa; 2017-10-29 at 12:39.

You need a card that has the Atheros AR2413 chip. It won't make much sense just to try any card because the firmware Supports only this specific chip, or ones which are 100% compatible to it. As long as the card has the correct edge connector (mini PCI) and chip, it should work.
TP-Link TL-WN560G will work for instance.
You can see from the what the connector looks like. It seems you tore both connectors from the board (why??). So they will be stuck in the antenna wire connectors. It's hard to describe how to get them apart again. You are probably going to need precision tweezers and a magnifying glass. Be extra careful anyway.
Good luck!
