    Web forum (again)

Can we drop this friggin' religious argument?

Jason - you are in the minority on this list. SlimDan has accomodated

your wishes (with a few others). I think it's a pretty decent
interface. I use fora too, but much prefer e-mail

If you don't want to participate, just unsubscribe.

Maybe you'd be amazed to know that web forums work very well for most
    small
    electronic products like the Squeezebox.

Every other MP3 player I own has a forum and finding information is
    very
easy, a quick search finds virtually anything one would want to know.

I visit forums when I need information, or if I'm feeling like helping
    out
in answering some questions. It's far preferable to having to sign up
    on an
email distribution list and be spammed with over 100 emails a day.

    I regularly visit forums for;

    Rio Karma
    Phatnoise Phatbox
    Apple iPod

And gee, Roku has a forum too. Seems to get quite a bit of traffic
    too... I
wonder how many potential Squeezebox customers have slipped through
    the
cracks because something like this does not already exist for the
    Squeezebox.

If everyone does this, then there may be a problem, as there would be
    lots
of posts asking questions, and not many people responding to them.

To me, this is not much different to a user searching a FAQ website,
    posting
a support email directly to Slim Devices, and getting a response. SD
    might
then decide to update the FAQ.

This mailing list is called "discuss" - it is not "support". It needs
active participants in order to discuss things.

If this were in a forum, you could choose not to read this thread anymore!
(haahaa) Instead of asking people not to discuss something on the discuss
    list I mean.

(stirring the pot can be fun sometimes!)

for my money gmail handles the list fine. I did lurk the AVS forums
for quite a while before I decided on what projector I wanted to
buy...so I can also see the use of a forum for the purposes of
    potential buyers.

One of the points here should be "I shouldn't have to sign up for a gmail
account to participate in these discussions"...but anyways...

    Merry XMas all!
