    Did you perform xilinx reset?

I don't see in the thread that you attempted a xilinx reset. I haven't opened an SB3, so don't know what's on the daughter board you describe vs. the "main" board, and I know it appeared the IR was completely un-responsive....
But (from the wiki on system resets for ip3k-based players (e.g., SB3):

Some system operations that require you to point your remote control on the Squeezebox while starting the Squeezebox. To be sure you're doing it right, pull the power from the unit, press and hold the appropriate button on the remote while keeping it pointed at the unit, and give the unit power again, while all the time keeping the remote button pressed and the remote pointed at the unit.
    Ip3k-based players

These codes apply to the ip3k-based players: Squeezebox 1, Squeezebox2, Squeezebox3, Boom.

    ADD - Factory reset
    1 - Program Xilinx
    2 - Factory test mode
    3 - Audio sine test

    Alas, yes.

The second sentence in my first post is:
"The SB does not respond to the remote in any way. Factory reset doesn't work, nor any of the "special" keys described in the Slimdevices wiki."

Those "special" keys include the "xilinx reset" (i.e. keypress 1 while booting SB3)

I am a moment away from trying Net-UDAP (couldn't get to it earlier like I anticipated). I will report back soon.

Thanks. We think alike! I am already "watching" a number of those sales since Net-UDAP will probably not work.

Of course given that it is now possible to buy an Android streamer for practically nothing [I saw this on Geekbuying for $11 a moment ago (granted, a limited time sale)], maybe it makes more sense to try the Android Squeezebox plugin . . .

I actually like the Android idea in that it could possibly work as a completely headless unit for even less money than a Raspberry-Pi. In our own home we pretty much never use our SBs directly but rather send it individual files or a playlist using the web interface to LMS.

I am not sure how manageable Android (or the plugin, with which I have not experience yet) is without a display. This Android as LMS-client may or may not work as smoothly as a headless Linux box.

Can't get Net-UDAP to work at all (so far).

It is no longer hosted as Robin describes at https://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-...GettingStarted but is now rather hosted on GitHub at https://github.com/robinbowes/net-udap

Perhaps some required files did not move over? I will need a little more time to look into this than I have this afternoon . . .

    Update:

    perl -v outputs:
    Code:
This is perl 5, version 22, subversion 1 (v5.22.1) built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi (with 58 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)

    Net_UDAP error:

    Code:
Bareword found where operator expected at udap_shell.pl line 6, near ""en" class"
    	(Missing operator before class?)
Bareword found where operator expected at udap_shell.pl line 22, near "<title>net"
    	(Missing operator before net?)
Can't modify numeric lt (<) in scalar assignment at udap_shell.pl line 6, near ""en" class"
syntax error at udap_shell.pl line 6, near ""en" class"
Unrecognized character \xC2; marked by <-- HERE after at master <-- HERE near column 45 at udap_shell.pl line 22.

This is all "running" (but not ) on a LinuxMint 18 box.

I'll go back to the Net-UDAP docs this evening or tomorrow . . .

Yeah, I had noticed that post recently and that had given me some hope. Unfortunately Net-UDAP doesn't seem to work on the LinuxMint 18 system I have available for the task.

I have PM'ed Robin and hope he has a moment to look at this thread.

I will also reach out to "Beast Of Bodmin" from the other thread and (if he is still active) ask what OS he ran Net-UDAP from. [I think Robin only ever tested against Fedora 8 and, wait, just noticed Windows XP. Hey, I am actually writing this post from a Windows XP box. Of course I really don't want to install ActiveState perl and cygwin on it . . . ]

I have a copy of Net::UDAP 1.0_01 on a Ubuntu system and it works OK.

That looks like you've not downloaded the software correctly.

This should work (tested on CentOS 7):

    Code:
    git clone https://github.com/robinbowes/net-udap.git
    cd net-udap
    cpan Log::StdLog Term::Shell Class::Accessor IO::Interface::Simple
    ./scripts/udap_shell.pl
    R.
Net-UDAP is free software - you do not have to pay for it.
However, if you found it useful, please consider donating:
