announce: ShairTunes2W - Airtunes on LMS (forked version with Windows support)

Seems like Apple are saying their lossless files are ALAC ranging from 44/16 to 48/24, so that lower 44/16 end would, at least in theory, be better than the regular Spotify files I'm hearing at present.

But to repeat my question, is anyone actually using this, and if so what do you hear? And is there a way to tell the spec (44/16 or whatever) of the stream you're hearing?

I’m the maintainer of the plugin. Audio is encoded to 44/16, for every test that I’ve ever logged and, I can check the code, but AFAIR, there are places where 44/16 is hard coded.

Philippe, thanks, and apologies, I did realise you are the maintainer, so I certainly wasn't disputing your info.

My enquiry is intended to see if there is some way to stream those higher-res Apple Music files, somehow, from an Apple device to my DAC32.

It would be interesting, for example, to see if a 48/24 file really makes that much difference to my ears.

But if the only way is via shairtunes, and that tops out at 44/16, so be it.

I won't go the slippery slope of sample rate & resolution flame war, let's say that my signal processing engineering background tells me 48/16 is perfect and 44/16 is absolutely enough .

If I can find the time, I'll see how AirPlay controllers react to device advertising 48 as a sample rate (in the mDNS TXT record https://nto.github.io/AirPlay.html)

i compiled the latest git version of lms for omnios/solaris and installed the ShairTunes2W Plugin.

When i click on settings i get the following error:

404 Not Found: plugins/Extensions/settings/plugins/ShairTunes2W/settings/basic.html

Any clue, where i can fix that?

You need a set of crypto libs for LMS, with specific versions 0.30 for RSA and 0.06 for CryptX. Normally use:

cpan -T Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA
cpan -T Crypt::Ed25519
cpan -T CryptX

but you need with version number:

cpan -T TODDR/Crypt-OpenSSL-RSA-0.30.tar.gz
cpan -T MIK/CryptX-0.060.tar.gz

- on Solaris and a few debian - arm & aarch64 now, need to specify mirror -M https://cpan.metacpan.org before the lib name
- on FreeBSD, use cshrc instead of bashrc

Hi there,
since several days I have a lot of ShairTunes2W-entries in my server.log. They look like the following underneath and are repeated ca. every 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately the many ShairTunes2W-activities seem to block my whole LMS perfomance. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I have already deactivated the ShairTunes-plugin, but this would be the ultima ratio-solution.

I’m having the same issue as this one listed above. It’s only happening on 1 RPi 3b that I have while my other 4 RPI clients are working with the same setup without this issue. I’m using Picoreplayer 8.0

I’ve tried to reflash Picoreplayer on the RPI that is having the issues, but this has not helped. The player is in the same room as the router and works without fail when using Spotty. So I don’t think it’s a network issue unless it could be some hardware issue with the RPI.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Hi all,

i am running LMS and want to use ShairTunes2 to conntect 2 iPhones and an iPad via Airplay with the LMS.
This works only 1 time for 1 phone, after that i need to Republish or Whipe to get it working again.

Hardware: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU J3455 @ 1.50GHz
OS: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) Linux 5.10.0-9-amd64 x86_64
LMS Version: 8.3.0~1637040196
Squeezelite Version: 1.9.9-1392
ShairTunes2 (fork) (0.205.1)
iOS 15.0.2; iPhone 11, iPhone 12

So here was what i did to test the issue:
only Approximate Times:
17:48 - tried connect to ShairTunes - iPhone tells no connection possible (i did not republish before)
17:49 - RePublish - connecting with iPhone 1, OK and Works perfectly.
17:50 - Disconnect the iPhone with Selecting "iPhone" in the AirPlay Devices List on the iPhone, trying to connect one more time with the same phone works.
17:51 - Trying to connect from iPhone 2 - does not work "no connection possible"
17:52 - Trying to connect from iPhone 1 - does not work "no connection possible"
17:53 - Republish, connection is possilbe again for 1 Phone (also for iPhone 2).

Please find attached the Log files that whare created with "Extra Debug". Further more I attached screenshots of the Settings and of the iPhone Error.
Zip File -> 2 Log Files (guess they were split because of the Republish)
IMG_9895 -> "Spinning" 30 Seconds leads to IMG_9897
IMG_9897 -> Error
IMG_9896 -> Working after Republish
Settings -> ShairTunes Settings

So it looks like it is a network issue. IÂ’m using multiple RPIs around the house from a dedicated lms server all using Picoreplayer 8.0.0 with LMS 8.2.0

I have ASUS zenwwifi AX XT8 mesh Wi-Fi with 2 nodes using wireless backhaul. The issues I was experiencing was that 1 specific RPI client would dropout when using shairtunes and this was the only client on the secondary mesh node (connected wirelessly in the same room as the node).

The dropouts would be anywhere from 10mins after playing to a couple of minutes and so very random in terms of timing. But tried formatting the SD Card, a new SD card and even changing RPI thinking it may be a hardware issue with the RPI 3b+ I had in place.

But issue seems to be with latest ASUS XT8 firmware 45924, after factory reset and rollback to older 42095 firmware on both nodes everything seems stable so far (30mins in).
