    Yahoo SlimDevices Group

As it seems to continue to be an unresolved issue,
I've decided to create a Yahoo group for SlimDevices:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SlimDevices

I've been in contact with Dean, and he indicates a
web-based forum is indeed in the works for the
future(and in fact Slim originally was web-based way
back when... ), but we can fill the immediate need
readily using Yahoo and it's features: Web-based
browse and search, Individual Email Response or Daily
Digest Email, and even RSS feed. Polls are easily
supported, Database and Links, even Live Chat if
    desired.
All of this will hopefully ease a little of the burden
on the current list, especially with us newbs more
accustomed to Yahoo-like formats. There will be a
membership approval process to protect the group from
spam, and the group will be closely monitored by me
and any regulars here who wish to 'mod' the group for
spam, in particular (free and spirited discussion is
encouraged, but please try to stay on-topic, with a
reference towards helping others enjoy their Slim
    Devices).
Hopefully, this Yahoo group will suffice until such
time Slim has better 'facilities' that meet our needs.
Until that time arrives, I invite folks to participate
in this temporary extension of the Slim community! G'Luck!

While I commend you for your efforts, I'll pass. we used to be on yahoo, and it
was daily porn spam. not something you can check on during the day, especially
given that its blocked by certain IT nazis.

It was also subject to weekly rants from people who hated yahoo, and I recall
some of the oanguage was worse than that used lately in regard to email lists.

]I look forward to whatever solution Dean is working on. Hopefully it will be
miraculous enough to stop this incessant whinging. of course, this would then
be the killer app to kill all apps. nothing online has ever been able to avoid
    the inevitable bitching and moaning.

Here's a great article from Clay Shirky on the inevitable whinging. He
doesn't really offer a solution, but he does help explain why it happens
    at least.

I'd like to refute your contention that the group will devolve into spam. I
    run a few groups:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/archosjukebox6000/ with over 4000+ members and
    turning 4 years old!
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NetgearMP101Group/ (competitor! ) with 400+
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WindowsMediaConnect/
    http://newmp3technology.net/borum/index.php

and I challenge you to find any spam. I'd agree that if no one is watching,
spam will be a problem-just won't happen at SlimDevices.

Those folks you mention that detest Yahoo are certainly welcome to avoid
Yahoo, I wouldn't want anyone to be forced into using an interface they're not
comfortable with, on either side of the 'debate'.

Again, and for hopefully the last time, this is simply an extension of 'us' as
a group of enthusiasts, gathered to discuss, create a database of reference
info, and reach out to a broader cross-section of newb users/potential users.
I'm not expecting discuss members to abandon or migrate, simply to participate
if they wish-think of it as coping with growth/success! When work is completed
on Dean's solution, any info in Yahoo can be migrated as needed, and the group
will still be a front door to anyone who stumbles in looking for SlimDevices
info via Yahoo. I'd hope this concludes the 'whinging' in the discussionlist,
solutions now exist for all concerned, with even more options on the way, so
lets get back to talking Slim, shall we?

I'm with kdf. Gmane solves every problem I have with mailings lists, and
splitting the community won't help anyone.
