Behringer UCA 202 - I have 2 and they work fine into a Pi2 and a Pi3 although a purist would say use a Pi4 as the USB is separated from the Ethernet in the later model.
Only about ú25 but they are limited to 16/44.1 or 16/48 - more than enough for vinyl.

I take the audio via alsa input into Liquidsoap, then out to an Icecast server on the Pi. It streams out in FLAC quality. I then "Tune in URL" in LMS. There is a noticeable lag.
I run the Behringer inline from source to an aux socket on my amp. This effectively does a passthru of the audio signal if you arent using the streaming mode.

Alternatively use piCorePlayer and enable pcp Streamer. This does essentially the same but when I first tried it it ihad pops and clicks which my homebrew solution doesn't. It may well be better now we are at 6.10.
piCorePlayer also works with a Behringer UCA 202 confirmed.

I realistically need only one input (mono) to usb... Aren't there other vendors than Behringer?

Yes there are other vendors but I doubt you will find a mono version. Get a two into one cable or correct in software.

Yes when the feature was first added to pCP I tried it with one of these (super cheap) USB soundcards

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/External-...IAAOSwhvFZHdMj

I do not remember having any problems with clicks etc.

Of course theres HATS from HifiBerry and iQaudio that have inputs (I believe this feature has been tested with the HifiBerry HAT but cannot say for sure)

I don't think there is a reason to "correct in software" ?

Both channels will be the same if you use a 1-2 cable anyway

I said OR correct in software. Meaning if he chose to use L to L only (or R to R) then it would be fine if you tell alsa accordingly but a 1-2 cable is preferable.

I am currently giving a test run with icecast/darkice and one of the cheap usb soundcard mentioned earlier, only to notice the audio out of the stream is much less loud than anything else you can tune to.

Even if I crank the Capture level in alsamixer, it is still not on par with other streams (plus it gets quite noisy)

Is that similar results to using the Behringer?

Is there a way to make the stream louder?

For comparison purposes, I used the phono into a solid state power amp from the 70s to prove the phono level to noise is acceptable.

Then I try to feed it trough the usb sound card (phono in Mic, headphones out to the same amp) - here I get a lower level - and some noise as I crank the output to hear the signal.

Then I connected the same amp to a piCorePlayer rasp 1b playing the stream, the output is even lower.

Tried to play the stream through a browser, the level is also much lower than I anticipated.

Is this caused by bad settings or just a bad usb capture device?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Some of the Behringer devices have RIAA mode - in essence a preamp - which makes the signal from a turntable usable.
