    No Wireless - only Ethernet

I just purchased a refurbished Squeezebox Radio from Amazon, but wireless seems to be damaged. The weird thing is that it does not offer me to choose wireless during the setup wizard, it only has wired Ethernet, as if a WLAN module was missing. Ethernet works.

If I go to Diagnostics | Wireless info, the fields are greyed out with no information when selected.

I made a factory reset, the SW revision is 7.7.3 r16676.

I can SSH to the radio but I have no idea of which commands to use to try to isolate the fault. Any suggestions?

Note that squeezeboxes only supports 801.11g at 2,4gHzso if your wifi is N or AC only it wont work or 5.0 gHz wont work .

I have another SB Radio, a Boom, a Touch, a Classic and they all work on my b/g network. It's not that there is a malfunction, it's that Wireless is not enabled, as if there were a configuration file stating that only Ethernet is there or maybe a boot diagnostic not detecting the wireless chip.

Under "Choose network type" on my older (working) SB Radio I have
    - Connect to wireless network
    - Connect to Ethernet network
    - Help

On the new one I have
    - Connect to Ethernet network
    - Help

Similarly on the new one after factory reset the setup wizard doesn't propose wireless.

Thats the funny part a factory reset should replace the network files and other init scripts that possibly got mangled by the previus owner .

Try instead to "upgrade" the fw either from your own server or from mysqueezebox.com . I think you can select that in some menu even if upgrade to the same fw version .

I had already tried the following , no change
Settings | Advanced | Software Update | Begin update (to the same version)

Were you thinking of another method?

    Nope that was it

Enable SSH on the radios you got and compare startup scripts in /etc if your familiar with linux .
But that's a long shot and also rather tedious you don't if where or what someone has changed something or if it actually is broken.
Factory reset should restore it .

Can you get in Touch with the previus owner ? Or get out of the deal and get your money back ?

It's a refurbished radio bought through Amazon so I can return it no problem. But these devices are becoming rare and expensive, so I'll try to play with it this weekend rather than return it immediately - I may disassemble it to look for a WLAN module maybe not well inserted in a slot?

I can SSH and compare files, would you have any guidance to give as to which ones to look at?

Does Logitech still have people knowledgeable about the SB available in support?

I use "cat" to look at files in Touch Controller and radio . They also have the rather user unfriendly "vi" as the only text editor which one have to use if you actually want to edit something

    Files of interest

    /etc/network/interfaces

    etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

/etc/init.d/wlan Here some clever folks just types exit; at the first line

/etc/init.d/rcS here someone may have commented out the wlan startup

If there for example is an rcS.local file under /etc/init.d

Take a peak so no one has done stuff like :

    iwconfig wlan0 txpower off
    /etc/init.d/wlan stop

A command like iwconfig may give you some info
