Logitech Announces Plans for Revived Squeezebox Music Player Line
Lausanne, Switzerland
April 1, 2015
The Company is proud to announce a return to the networked music player market with a revival of its ground breaking Squeezebox line of networked music players. During the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2015 the Company plans to release:
- Squeezebox Touch II
- Squeezebox Radio II
- Squeezebox Boom II
- Transporter Deluxe
- Squeezebox Portable
All players will coordinate with existing Squeezebox players and Logitech Media Server (LMS). New players will contain additional features, including powerful processors with the ability to run LMS internally, access music files via USB, SD Card, or network connected file server. All players will natively play up to 32/384 files across most file codec types. The engineering team responsible for LMS will be expanded effective immediately with sufficient resources to address all reported software bugs and wishlist items from the logitech forum users.
In an associated move, Logitech announced the purchase of Spotify, Qobuz, and Tidal music streaming services. The newly-branded LogiMusic© will offer compressed file streaming free to owners of Squeezebox devices. CD quality streams will be available for $4.99/month for Squeezebox device owners. Non-owners may subscribe to compressed streams for $4.99/month or CD quality streams for $9.99/month.

In related news, Neil Young announces that Pono will be shutting down effective immediately in light of the Logitech announcement. Careful observers of the video clip Neil Young posted making this announcement noted a Logitech Squeezebox Touch player connected to the stereo system to Mr. Young's right, apparently displaying the cover from Devo's debut album.

yep, it makes me sad too, given that this *should* be the announcement. Squeezeboxes and LMS are still the premier way to deal with digital music streaming.
p.s. Neil Young really did like Devo and had plans for recording with them at some point.Home: VBA2.5 4TB or rPi4B-8GB/pCP7.x/4TB>LMS 8.1.x>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet)
