Coloured squeezebox availability in uk ?

You are right that at one time our products were subject to import duty.
Over this past year, we enhanced the information we provide to customs
officials and import brokers to better manage the outcome of the shipping
    process.

I recently reviewed the impact of these changes and found that we had
eliminated duty to most countries (especially European countries). If there
is no duty to charge then UPS will not charge a handling fee.

As for VAT...well that's between you and your government and something you
would still pay if you purchased a Squeezebox in your own country.

    Regards,

    Patrick

Coloured squeezebox availability in uk ?

    Patrick,

I am sorry but I have to disagree with you. Let me qualify this by
saying that I can speak for shipments to Canada and not the EU, but UPS
(and other carriers) will assess the brokerage fee regardless of whether
duties are payable or not. They charge the brokerage fee to process the
declaration to the Customs authority regardless of the status of the
goods and whether duties are to be paid or not. Furthermore, despite the
fact that duties are not payable for your product, the Goods and
Services Tax (GST), the Canadian equivalent to the VAT is payable and
therefore require UPS to "process" the shipment.

The REAL problem with UPS for shipments to Canada, anyways, is that
their brokerage fee is significant and as such adds a great deal to cost
of mail ordering a product into Canada shipped by UPS.

Recently I had the pleasure of ordering a couple of products from the
US. Both product were made in the US and as such duty free for import to
Canada. Both product had a value for duty of approximately $50. The
product shipped by UPS cost me
the GST plus a $25 brokerage fee (payable to UPS), while the other
shipment, shipped using the USPS Global Express service (fairly
equivalent to UPS Ground) cost me the GST plus a $5 brokerage fee.

While UPS provide good service, their brokerage fee is outrageous and as
such I try to avoid buying from a retailer that ships to Canada with UPS
if at all possible. Otherwise, I factor the brokerage fee in my purchase
    decision.

It might be wise to either consider other carriers for your shipment to
Canada, or to discuss this with your UPS rep.

I think it is only fair for your customers to know what it will cost
them up-front, including duties, taxes and brokerage costs.

    Thanks.

Coloured squeezebox availability in uk ?

well that's good news. Last time I got a slimp3 in (to the UK), it cost $60
in duty, VAT and handling fee.

UPS still collect the VAT though, will that not still incur a fee as well?

Mind you, I travel enough to the US to get them there and bring them back.
Ralissa is very good at getting units with UK power cords sent to my US

UPS = bad Coloured squeezebox availability in uk ?

I also have the same complaint about UPS. They seem to be popular in the US (
the shipping department at my company confirmed this, tho can't explain the
exact reason). What irked me the most is that they show up expecting you to
have cash in had for the 'fees' even when they have given you no warning
whatsoever of what that amount might be. By contrast, FedEx, while not being a
great deal cheaper will at least call ahead (if a phone number is supplied on
the waybill) and offer to arrange payment by credit card. In my last case,
there was no phone number, but they actually went to the effort of looking up a
previous shipment, which was even from an unrelated company, and found my
number. The pain of the fee was at least a little more bearable when it ws not
associated with the panic of finding (in the case of a squeezebox, $104) cash
or face the prospect of a taking time off work to make a 2 hour round trip to
the UPS office to pick up the parcel. In one case, I paid more to UPS than I did
to the supplier ($35CDN in fees/gst for a $25USD part.

    Jean-StÚfane,

To be clear: for MOST European countries there should now be no duty
and no handling fee, only VAT. We have confirmed this by following up
with several UK and continental Europe customers over the past months.
We'll work on Canada - sorry about that.

We're trying to provide as much info as possible and we're doing
everything we can to reduce fees in each individual country to which we
ship. We can't quote exact delivered prices in other countries because
of fluctuating currencies, taxes, and import policy, but we're trying
to minimize the costs everywhere possible.

Hi Sean, any updates on the import duty and brokerage fees for Canada customers? I saw the US$100 off 2 SB3 offer and wanted to place an order, but I'm very concerned that UPS is the carrier. Is it possible to ship them via USPS Global Express Mail?

    Thanks,

    Ray

Re: Coloured squeezebox availability in uk ?

    Ray:

As the Squeezebox is made in the U.S., it is not
    subject to duty under NAFTA.

However you will be assessed both GST and PST. COD,
so have your credit card right at the door...

Now aside from a high shipping charge for such a small
box, UPS charged no additional "customs and brokerage"
fees like I was concerned about. However, they are so
inconsistent about this, I can't be sure if the same
    thing will happen for you.

Hi Mark, thanks for the info Maybe I would be better off buying from the Canadian distributor. I won't be able to get the discount tho. But who knows, maybe it would turn out more expensive with the UPS charges.

Nope, if you order direct from Slim, you save about
    $25.

If you lived in a province outside of where you order
it, you'd save on PST. But if you're in Ontario, you
end up paying more than ordering direct.

I don't mind at all if a local retailer knows about
this. I will buy locally, but I won't pay more to do
    it!

Clarification - UPS shipments to Ontario

More than a month after the fact, I just received an invoice from UPS for the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) of 8%. Why in the world didn't they COD this when I got the item? - I had to pay the 7% GST at that time. If UPS is this inefficient, it might explain why their shipping charges are so high!
