Help! LMS via UPnP doesn't sound as good as USB.

    Hi everyone,
Just purchased a PS Audio Directstream DAC last week, connected it to my Vortexbox appliance running Logitech Media Server via USB, and absolutely loved it! Big improvement over my two other DACs. After reading reviews, I then purchased a PS Audio Bridge II that arrived today, and so far Iím underwhelmed with the results when playing music over my home network via UPnP. Hereís a brief summary:

    • Sound quality via the Bridge II sounds thin compared to USB. Musicality seems to be lost.
    • 192/24 recordings don't play correctly (really not at all). An audible noise comes out, but itís as if the song is being played at a fraction of its normal speed. Itís unrecognizable.
    • Although the sample rate and bit rate display correctly, the metadata is always stuck on the first song, and album artwork does not display at all.

To get LMS to work with Bridge II, I installed Philippe's squeeze2upnp plug-in (thank you so much!). Iím hoping thereís a setting that Iíve missed, or Iíll need to return the Bridge II and revert back to USB. Is there a log that I can post to see if I inadvertently screwed up a setting or am doing something else wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Mike

sq2u and Roon, any feedback ?

Hello , i'm looking for feedback from users using squeeze2upnp to manage upnp renderers via Roon software ?

Roon server is able to emulate LMS (i'm using Roon successfully with SBT, SB3 and SqueezeLite devices).

A lot of Roon users complains about lack of UpnP renderer support.
Is squeeze2upnp a potential solution or workaround ?

    Regards.

I know little about Roon. But I do know that you use either LMS or Roon,
but not both of them. Therefore I doubt a LMS based plugin can help with
    the Roon limitations.

    Yes, i agree Michael.
When Roon emulate LMS you have to stop any other LMS server running on the network and so no LMS plugin to help.

But, what i understand from sq2u user guide, is that squeeze2upnp is able to run as standalone (launched via the command line and configured via xml config file).

So my question about any feedback from users running Roon with standalone squeeze2upnp.

Oh, true. There you might have a point.

I suspect you are breaking new ground. Why not try the stand-alone solution and see what happens? There's a user manual that may help you set it up.
    LMS 8.1 on PC, Xubuntu 20.04, FLACs 16->24 bit, 44.1->192kbps. 2 Touches & EDO.
LMS plugin UPnP/DLNA Bridge to MF M1 CLiC (A308CR amp & ESLs) & Marantz CR603 UPnP renderers.
Also Minimserver & Upplay to same & to upmpdcli/mpd PC renderers.
Squeezelite to Meridian USB Explorer DAC to PC speakers/headphones.
Wireless Xubuntu 20.04 laptop firefox/upplay or Android mobile with Squeeze-Ctrl/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver.

If Roon can handle squeezelite players - upnpbridge creates squeezelite players - then it might work.

Yes it should - sq2u is an independant application that does not need the Perl plugin part to run. Basically, it looks like a squeezelite on one end and handles a UPnP device on the other end, so bug aside, it should do the bridge. All you have to do is manually edit the configuration file, there is helper (the config file edit is the only thing the Perl part does, really)
    LMS 8.2 on Odroid-C4 - SqueezeAMP!, 5xRadio, 5xBoom, 2xDuet, 1xTouch, 1xSB3. Sonos PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, Foobar2000, ShairPortW, 2xChromecast Audio, Chromecast v1 and v2, Squeezelite on Pi, Yamaha WX-010, AppleTV 4, Airport Express, GGMM E5, RivaArena 1 & 3

    Thank you Philippe,
i've a quick and dirty try with the stand-alone application using foobar as UPnP renderer.

    - UPnP device is detected from Roon and displayed as an available squeezelite device. Perfect !

    - With the default parameters i'm unable to play the stream (mp3, 44,1, 16b), Roon seems skip to the next track without playing.

    - I don't know if CLI on port 9090 is supported on Roon LMS emulation (cf output: [18:06:42.123] slimproto:950 [004BEF08] unable to connect to server with cli 0)

CLI is better but not mandatory. Are you sure the computer you are running sq2u does not have a firewall of some kind?
