    NorthStar Essensio usb dac

I would like to use my NorthStar Essensio usb dac with a raspberry pi2 running Max2play.

I have connected the dac but it is not recognised, so I presume the drivers are not present.

I seem to remember that it was possible in one of the old Squeezeplug versions .

If I follow these instructions (using Putty and SSH as root) into the pi will the drivers work?

    https://github.com/panicking/snd-usb-asyncaudio/wiki

Or can someone (looking at you, flysurfer, here) give me the instructions on how to do it?

Also there appears to be an updated v3, is this relevent?

Thanks for your help in this matter.

Currently using the Essensio via SPDIF/HiFiBerry Digi+

    SqueezePlug Plugin

Relative to the above post I decided today to reinstall Max2Play on my Odroid U3.

I can't try the Essensio dac until Wednesday, but have done all the tweaks to LMS that I require.

There used to be a Squeezeplug plugin which allowed one to reduce the frequency of the blue heartbeat of the Odroid.

    Where's it gone?

I know the code was published on the Hard Kernel forum, do I have to go there?

    Odroid Setting

    Hi Ronnie,

the Addon you are looking for is the "Advanced Setup Odroid U3". With this you can change the blinking Power-LED and change the action for the power-button.

You may try to build and load the driver for the NorthStar DAC with the kernel-sources like your link suggests (https://github.com/panicking/snd-usb-asyncaudio/wiki). But you will need to get the Kernel-Sources for the Raspberry PI from somewhere. There are different ways to get the kernel headers, but "apt-get install kernel-headers-$(uname -r)" won't work... These links should be helpful:
    - get the Kernel headers: https://github.com/notro/rpi-source/wiki
    - some more infos and links: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/v...?f=33&t=108075

    Cheers,
    Stefan

However, I noticed minor clicking on several tracks, not just limited to the high resolution tracks. I changed the ALSA option on Squeezelite to 300::16:0 and that seemed to resolve the problem. I'll be checking this out remotely this weekend or next.
I have checked the Raspberry Pi with the version 2.15 of Max2Play. My LMS at home recognized the Squeezelite player. However, when I tried to play a track I got no output and the track advanced to 11 seconds and then jumped to the next track. THere was no putput through the headphone either.
I though that it might be a handshaking issue with HDMI, but the Shairport worked excellent!
I don't think that it is an internet resrtiction either, because I have orange squeeze and squeezezplyaer loaded on my Samsung Galaxy and Kindle Fire as well as Squeezeplayer on my old laptop and they al connecetd fine to the remote server.

When I switched over to the SD card with picoreplayer, I got sound output but it too only played for 11 seconds and then jumped to the next track where I then got no sound output.

    Any suggestions?

    Support for USB Cards

@Ronnie: I created a Module File for you and put it here: http://shop.max2play.com/media/downl...3.18.11.tar.gz

You may download the file, extract it and install the Mod by following console commands:

    Code:
    wget http://shop.max2play.com/media/downloadable/currentversion/snd-usb-hiface-3.18.11.tar.gz
    tar xzf snd-usb-hiface-3.18.11.tar.gz
    cd snd-usb-hiface-3.18.11/
    # EDIT: for PI B+ change directory to cd snd-usb-hiface-3.18.11/Pi_B
    insmod snd-usb-hiface.ko

    # this just works until next reboot - to save permanent you can add the last line "insmod snd-usb..." to your /etc/rc.local before exit 0
@stereoptic: seems like your Squeezebox Server doesn't recognize your player is playing something?

    Thanks a lot Stefan.

Just a couple of quick questions.

    1) This is for the raspberry pi? and I can just SSH in with Putty and carry out the commands (I run Windows mostly, though I do have a Linux Mint Live CD).

When I try the Dac on my Odroid, if there is no driver, can I use the same commands?

I won't be home until Tuesday pm so will have to wait.

Thanks again for your excellent support; if you keep this up, I will have to buy something.

    Regards

    Ronnie.

This was compiled on a Raspberry PI 2 - but should also work on a Raspberry PI B. It think it will not work on a ODROID because it has an other Kernel version. For the ODROID you have to do the same procedure (get Kernel headers + compile sources from the panicking github repository). But on the PI it was little more difficult and I had to change some lines in the source files due to changes in the ALSA sound interface (this is the reason why I created the package for you ).

Is there a way to check that? Something in the log?

This doesn't happen with any of the other players connected to it.

Previously I had an older version of Squeezeplug w/ Squeezelite running on the remote location and that played properly. The only issue that I had with that was that it wouldn't start correctly when rebooted. I would have to kill the squeeze process (for some reason there were 2) and then manually issue the command to start it again. I may try that next time I am there. I can putty into the Raspberry, find the process ID and then manually type in the command.

The frustrating thing is that I know it CAN work. LMS successfully connects to the player and attempts to play.
