Yes i did it was huge so i had to zip it to 20mb .

I think i've found a clue to the problem .

Some of the playlist had file paths like:

    file:///media/music1/....

And other had file paths like:

    /media/music1/....

A little search and replace and I adjusted all playlist to .

    /media/music1/....

And now we are down to 43000 files again (but i still want it to be more like 42600) and improvement of some magnitude

This is very strange some of these playlist have have been there for years ,unchanged ?

7.9 Problems/Bugs - New Browsing Modes (Albums and Compilations)

    LMS 7.9.0 - 1403270469, Win 7

The new browse functions of Albums and Compilations are welcome additions to the web GUI.

I suspect that some of my tagging is causing some compilation albums to appear multiple times, in some cases an album for each track.

What is the selection criteria for a compilation ? (I thought it would be files in a folder that all have the same data in the Album tag and but different data in the Artist tag, and/or Compilation set to 1)

I suppose that I am asking what tags should be populated for an album with multiple artists to appear as a single entry in the new Compilations browse function?

In Album Artists, All Artists or are you using the "single configurable
    artists list" (Settings/My Music)?

This comes pretty close. I'm sure there are some other corner cases, but
    that's basically it.

But there's not only "ARTIST" as a tag, there's the ALBUMARTIST as well
as COMPOSER, CONDUCTOR and BAND tags. You could eg. have an ALBUMARTIST
of "Various Artists", but a different ARTIST for every track. Those
tracks would create separate items in the All Artists menu.

    compilation=1 should do it.

No, "Use two separate lists for Album Artists and All Artists" is selected.

Thank you for that explanation, I can understand that for the All Artists Menu.

In which case there are some albums that are appearing more than once in the Compilations.
A clue may be that several tracks have the same artist

Ok, compilation=1 and identical ALBUMARTIST values (if they do exist)
are needed. As you show in your screenshots there are several different
ALBUMARTIST values for different tracks of the same album. That doesn't
    really make sense.

Michael, thank you, and apologies for not putting these questions in the Beginners forum.
Removing the ALBUMARTIST tags and leaving ARTIST and Compilation=1 gets compilation albums appearing once only in the Compilations menu.

You _want_ that album to be considered a compilation? I don't understand that. Is it not an Alison Krauss collection? The way I (and I think most people) would tag it is:

    ALBUMARTIST: Alison Krauss
ARTIST: can be different for each track
COMPILATION: (delete this tag from all tracks)

This way, when you browse albums sorted by artist name, it will appear sorted under Alison Krauss and appear with her other albums, and the artist name shown for the album will be 'Alison Krauss' instead of 'Various Artists'.
