Wait again for 30 secs or so the type lsmod again
Does the output change ?
Is it a usb 2 certified cable.

I don't know, I suggested it earlier, just to check squeezelite. I would think Max2play or RPIOS Buster. PIOS Bullseye should work, they ar all based on the same base, but mayuse different kernels (or not).
I think it best for you to follow the advice given by paul-.

You can access these via Main Page > Diagnostics

No Idea about tags, the suggestion was to check squeezelite, which is your problem
You caould always make a new install of pCP, download a fresh image, check the hash, and burn a new image onto a clean formatted card

Why not try it with either Moode or Volumio, it works with either OS, then both offer Squeezelite as an output (note any successful output settings).
Or run a base RPI OS and install Squeezelite
Or; try this last first, update Squeezelite from the...

Thanks for the "extra mile" Michael
Still not working for me though
I had already updated yesterday when I saw your reply, so I download a fresh package and put it in the updates folder (this might give it a different ownership, I don't know). I also...

Ah well..sigh
Thanks anyway.
I'll pass on the AI thng, and as for man pages, I struggle with them; they presume a level of competence in the subject that I simply don't have
I'll keep looking, maybe someone else will drop by
