This brings us back to the fact that the system shouldn't reboot when squeezelite bails out; it should instead send an air message to the UI and stay there....

Are you able to do an http post of a json payload from that plugin? if so, I could probably add a small console command. It would register under the "advanced" tab that shows up when you enable it from the credits tab....

Note that the first bootloader that the ESP32 runs has a different baud rate than 115200 and may cause some garbled content. But the log you are showing seems to indicate that the system's baud rate for console is completely different. This is intriguing to say the least. Philippe is "out of reach"...

If you only connect TX and RX plus GND, dis the system come up? If not, then it's the other pins that trigger the success reboot and this could mean that the board somehow gets stuck in flash mode (which the serial adapter gets it out from).
Try only theses pins with a console at 115200/8/N/1...

Note that DTR and RTS aren't an absolute necessity if you can't solder and can't find an adapter where it is already soldered or of the box. To get logs, all you need is VCC, GND, TX, RX. And if you absolutely need to reflash, there's a program button on the SqueezeAMP for that.

The beauty about that platform is that there are little to no chance of bricking. Do you have a usb to serial adapter? If not, then I suggest you get one as a beginning. This will allow you to connect to the console and get some logs

Pushing the WROVER modules to 240MHz and that's barely sufficient for some tasks. It's unlikely that this new module would suffice....

Typically, all you need for these simple DACs is to connect the pins and flash the generic i2s version to get started. Note that current releases boot to the recovery partition, which you will have to exit before the device appears as a player in LMS...

Go with the simple devices, top of your list. Hats would probably be ok too but I didn't check in details....

This is pretty much it. And this includes some clever fixes you introduced in the espressif SDK, which allowed us to push the limits even further....

Some https certificates expired some time ago and newer versions of the firmware implemented a method to update them. If your devices weren't updated in a while, then the ESP might not be able to establish secure connections anymore and the update will fail.
A number of things were done...

I might be positively biased by the project... but out of 9 zones (some being sychronized, some being stand alone), 2 are running SqueezeAMP and 2 are running ESP32 Wrover contraptions of some sort and they are all stable enough that I have almost forgotten what they are....
