Logitech buying Slim Devices made sense at the time, as Logitech was betting big on the Google TV box, and Slim Devices at least understood streaming. So the buy was a talent acquisition. But the Logitech/Google TV box had a lot of problems when it was released, including political/business issues,...

That part was clear, but I didn't see anything about how much per second.
Even one dollar/euro/pound per hour has a potential to add up fast. In the olden days, CompuServ charged by the minute, and it was easy to run up $70 bills in a month without doing much....

Good question. sox is cool, but hasn't had any updates in a decade. There are many bugs reported, some which I ran into. Some could be trivially and quickly fixed in the HTML source. I guess the authors have moved on.
Yeah, I ran a small selection of files with various -v from .98 down...

I have a script running sox to apply the "compand" process. Its been running for about 24 hours. I have no way to know how far its along. I guess it might be half done.
The script looks like
sox is constantly warning that it has "clipped" a few thousand...

Thanks, yeah, its not the tool I'm looking for. When I manually run fpcalc, on a typical file, I get about 3700 characters of output. The AcoustID fingerprint IDs that I've seen Picard display are much shorter.
I don't have any at hand, but I think they are more like 64 characters in some...

Yeah, i've given up on that idea. What I'm going to do is write a small "telltale" file into the directory that tells me it has been processed thru sox/fb2k Its gotta be batch, as of today, I'm up to 352 artists, and 3922 songs.
BTW, I'm using the Apache license on the tools...

The sox website example shows a command that will not work with the current sox version
sox --version
sox: SoX v14.4.2
the example command looks like:
which is apparently a unicode minus sign, and the current sox version expects an ASCII minus sign.
Unicode...

Not that it helps the OP, but when I got my first SqueezeBox 1, you couldn't get PC hard disks larger than 32GB. Mostly because 32GB is as high as you can count in a 32 bit word.
While we are used to huge thumbdrives now, and it got bigger towards the end of SlimDevices days, back then, that was...

This is a dropbox link to the "mm" executable. Its built for X686 and Linux
Trivial to make other flavors, but I haven't tested other combos
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nmo1cb8pfzdayrg/mm?dl=0
If you want to get the source, its on github

Right now, my tagtool utility has the following commands
Usage of mm/mm: [flags] directory-spec
-a artist map - list artist not in source code (gpmap)
-c Album track order - output cp command in track order
-csv
output CSV format
-de
debug on
-dup...

Thanks, I replied to your old post, offering to write something if you still need it. I'm writing assorted utilities for linux, what you need is nearly trivial. I often prefer shell/command line programs, as you can write programs to write the commands to handle thousands of songs....

I can tweak the software I've been writing over the past month or so to do this is you still need it.
My code reads the Vorbis/mp3 tags using David Howden's wonderful library. Its trivial to have the answers output in a CSV format.
My driver just takes a filepath, and walks all the...

Thanks, but you are completely missing what I am looking for. I don't care about the size of the music files, as you say, storage is cheap. I do not want the compression you get going from FLAC to MP3. I want audio compression as an effect to reduce the dynamic range of the music. Its easy to do with...

Great link, thanks. My Mazda CX5 is a nice crossover, but the background noise may approach your VW van, especially when I'm towing an open trailer full of dirt bikes. Back in 97, I had a Lincoln LSC, that was quiet enough that you could hear the squeaks of a thumb on the back of the neck of an acoustic...

well, I have installed foobar2000 and the compressor "component" but
most of the links to documentation on the official foobar2000.org page are dead or nearly empty.
So I have no idea how I could even apply the component to a single song, let alone a folder full of songs.
