There is no guarantee that EDO will work woth any USB connection at any time

I have some dacs that exhibit the same behaviour that you are experiencing

They use the "new" XMOS usb connection

I can test a few but not for a day or so as I'm watching TV

Thanks. The C100 dac has what they describe as "the latest XMOS XU-316 solution", so that's probably it.

Is that newer than Topping E30?

I have just had a quick play with a Topping DX3 Pro dac

Usb connection via a passive usb hub, every indication of playback was positive, but no sound.

I switched the output to Digital only and used a co-ax cable for the SPDIF connection.

Sound on playback; whilst still playing I reselected the usb output, I then had sound on usb playback.

So it might be a procedual connection thing.

I stopped playback, disconnected the co-ax cable, removed the passive usb hub from the chain and restarted playback:- no sound.

I pulled the power plug on the SBT and then reconnected, everything shown as working but no sound.

I then repeated the Co-ax connection routine which gave sound then repeated the usb connection routine and music played

The SBT is on the Wireless network and I used this pathway on the SBT to make the alterations

Settings > Advanced > Digital Output > Select Audio Output

I put both the SBT and Dac into standby, waited five minutes and then selected the SBT from the LMS web gui and started playback of Radio Paradise

The dac did not come out of standby so I used the remote control to do that and the usb connection was shown immediately and music was alredy playing.

I have left the co-ax cable plugged in for the moment

I hope this give you a few ideas

Thanks. Switching the output in Settings - Advanced - Digital Output - Select Audio Output always causes a reboot of the Touch - right?

After setting the input to USB and waiting for the reboot, the web interface shows the track not playing, and clicking play has no effect in the web interface. On the Touch, the Play button at the bottom of the screen changes from the play symbol to the pause symbol, so at some level, the Touch thinks it is playing something. But the track does not advance (elapsed time remains at zero).

Power cycling the DAC or toggling its input has no effect, the behaviour remains as above.

Perhaps I could try a USB splitter like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...1AZ0MU6D&psc=1 so that the DAC remains powered up during the Touch reboot? Or is it possible to telnet/ssh into the touch and persuade it to switch to the usb input without a reboot by a modprobe or something?

Well you can,of course, try whatever you wish, but I think the dac usb connection is not compatible with the SBT

If the two devices connect then the status on the SBT would show as "running".

I think it is a problem in the downloaded "kernel" which most likely needs a "refresh"

I can't help with that Sorry

The Touch USB out does work with the E30 though, until the sampling rate changes then you need to toggle the DAC inputs đŸ˜€

I'm pretty sure that the DX3 Pro used to work with EDO without any tweaking before I updated the firmware.

I notice now that the list of supported sample rates on the EDO / SBT does not include 192000 which it did previously. I wonder if work done on the Community firmware has somehow compromised the EDO Applet in some manner ?

I have non Topping dacs which still work EDO / SBT without any compromise. Micromega MyDac is one

There's nothing that I'm aware of that would cause that not to work with the CF.
I can't test it right now as my touch as it's on the fritz.
I'd first try to factory reset the touch with the CF and reinstall EDO, if it still doesn't work, then next steps would be to confirm it works running fab4_7.8.0_r16754 at EDO.

The Touch provides enough power (Using the DAC's Bluetooth input right now from my TV). EDO settings gives me the choice of Analogue & Digital, Digital Only or SMSL USB AUDIO. Selecting Digital Only works - sending the output to the DAC's optical input.

Selecting SMSL USB AUDIO reboots the Touch as expected (which of course briefly powers off the DAC but it powers back on early in the Touch boot sequence). The problem is that tracks will not play - clicking the play button on either the Touch's screen or in the browser interface does nothing. Is this a timing problem due to the DAC drawing power from the Touch?

Settings/Audio Settings/Digital Output shows "USB-Audio - SMSL USB AUDIO [INFO]". Clicking on this shows Status: Stop, Speed: High, Connection: Direct, etc.
There are three alternate test linux kernels available for EDO using the SetupKernelUpdater v0.3. Have you tried them?

Thanks for this. I've tried them now, they all work with this DAC (SMSL C100: XMOS XU-316 USB interface, AKM AK4493S DAC chip).

Currently using No. 12, and I've had some momentary sound dropouts (3 in 17 minutes so far). I'll let the current album play out, then switch back to test kernels 7 and 11 and report back.

Turns out it was my network. The album that occasionally stuttered was 24/176.4. I tried a 24/192 release (this is all Qobuz) and it was awful. Then I switched to ethernet, and fingers crossed, it all seems fine, apart from the big red cable running across my living room floor

I might limit it to 24/96, I know from experience that works fine over wi-fi.

                            • When my SB boots up I see the Enhanced Digital Output tesx but I cant seem to find the Settings. There is no Digital Output in Audio Settings. It has worked before. Any suggestions?

                                Factory reset fixed it…
