If you read page 1 of the thread you will see the following:

There are a number of limitations to be aware of:
      1) USB 1 dacs which operate in asynchronous mode

If you miss that, the word "USB" is in the thread title, too!

      • SBT : EDO will not install...

        Hello All,

I have 4 SBTs and I know I am late to the party, but decided to install EDO to access 192K material.

All SBTs are at 7.8....xx version

After going to App Gallery>3rd Party Apps etc, and installing EDO they all only reboot once and then seemingly that's it - they don't install a kernel and do the second reboot - and nor is EDO active.
In the Apps Gallery the EDO applet is listed as Re-Install - not Un-Install - so I assume it has not installed as evident above.
I then try installing the Kernel Updater in the Apps Gallery and that too ends up in a 'Re-Install' state.

I have of course tried then re-installing EDO but of course the status quo remains.
This happens on all 4 SBTs.

I have done a full factory reset - upgraded to 7.8 - that all goes well and all SBTs upgrade to latest firmware.
I am logged into Squeezebox.com in LMS.

If anyone can help in this regard it would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks

Do a factory reset, you should be connected to the enternet

From the home screen on the Touch:-

Settings > Advanced > Applet Installer > Enhanced Digital Output > Install 0.10 > select digital only

When the screen comes back up:-

Settings > Advanced > Digital Output > Select digital output > make your choice

            Thanks Ronnie - all sorted.

It was an internet firewall issue.

One thing I have noticed is that on the two SBTs I have updated, the sound effects no longer work.

              • Enhanced Digital Output (Reinstall)

EDO has been working since many years at my SBT.

Due to an upgrade of PERL my LMS was not functioning anymore. I have searched for an older version (spk) for my Synology NAS, but that was rather difficult.

I found one and now I'm currently using:
                Logitech Media Server Version: 8.1.1 - 1610364019 @ Thu Jan 14 06:27:19 CET 2021
                Hostname: NAS
                Server IP Address: 192.168.1.100
                Server HTTP Port Number: 9002
                Operating system: Synology DSM 6.2.4 - EN - utf8
                Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
                Perl Version: 5.24.0 - x86_64-linux
                Audio::Scan: 0.95
                IO::Socket::SSL: 2.037
                Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)

The SQT automatically forced me to upgrade the device to 7.8.0 r16754. All went fine. My LMS is recognising the SBT, I can play music...

When I install Enhanced Digital Output (Reinstall) it downloads and restarts. However, after rebooting nothing happened and again I have the option: Enhanced Digital Output (Reinstall)
At Settings --> Audio settings I cannot find a fifth option to select Digital Output.

I also reset to factory settings and did the above procedure again.

                What is going wrong?

                UPDATE:
I went back to 7.7.6, but unfortunately no succes. The same issue is still there as I described above.
It seems to be that 7.7.6 is the most reliable and "old school" version or am I wrong? Which version is the best on DSM 6 and x86_64-linux architecture?

I managed to get back to EDO, but not 100%.
Somehow, I managed via Settings --> Advanced --> Reinstall Digital Audio Output. This is the same procedure I have done via "App Gallery" --> "3rd Party Apps" etc but wasn't successful and this have made the difference. Now, I have installed "Digital Output (Current)" and I can make several settings, like "Buffering Tuning (Experimental)"

So, I seem to be on the good track (at startup you can also see EDO, not supported by Logitech etc). I'm using Coaxial instead of USB (1), which I always did and worked fine...

However, my Flac (which is 100% 192 Khz as I used many times) is converted back to:

It's now about LMS I suppose... This is being played back at 48 Khz. As you can see in the screen dump, the original file is downsampled by LMS.
I can remember at the LMS you should also install an app, digital output or something. However, I cannot find it. Can somebody help please? My library has been working always before, same NAS, same DAC, same config etc

PS at LMS if have checked Advanced settings --> File types --> FLAC to FLAC set to Native

                  • Hi

I have a SBT where I installed EDO a long time ago. It is running 7.8.0 r16754.
LMS is on a Synology NAS (version 8.1.1)
Before tinkering everything was working fine with Analog output.
I plugged in my new Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen, but didn't work at first.

Had to reinstall the Kernel (see below).

                    I tried:

Settings > Advanced > Applet Installer > Enhanced Digital Output > Remove 0.10
Settings > Advanced > Applet Installer > Enhanced Digital Output > Install 0.10
When the screen comes back up:-
Settings > Advanced > Digital Output > Digital Output Kernel Update

                    It now boots and says:
                    Enhanced Digital Output
                    Unsupported by Logitech

Settings > Advanced > Digital Output > Select Audio Output > Digital Only
Settings > Advanced > Digital Output > Select Audio Output > USB 1 no-hub workaround (all my FLAC files are from CD anyway, except one 48 kHz download)

                    Had to select:
                    Settings > Audio Settings > Digital Output > USB-Audio - Scarlett 2i2 [Info]

Nothing here seems to bring sound through the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to my stereo.

OK, I am back to Analog+Digital and playing music, but I wonder if anyone could help me, maybe there's a detail I have overlooked?

Without the same device it is difficult to offer any advice

                      I found this:-

This applies to All Focusrite Products
None of our products are supported for use on Linux.
Our USB products (Scarletts and Clarett USB) are Class Compliant USB Devices and may work in a Linux-based setup that supports this class of device, but we do not offer support for doing this and cannot verify the performance you may experience.
In addition, you will need a Windows or Mac computer in order to install the Control Software for your interface.
For a list of Mac and PC Operating Systems supported for your device, please check out our OS Compatibility page here.

Maybe try with an unpowered usb 2 hub between the SBT and the Fucusrite.

                      or

                      a powered hub.

If you have a Linux computer (even a raspberry pi) attatch the Focusrite, reboot and check if it is recognised.

It might be that the dac does just not work with the EDO setting on the SBTouch.

In response to your question I dug out My SBT and installed EDO.

An old Stoner Audio usb dac and an Apple USB dongle both work.

A Topping E30 and DX3Pro, indicate a status of running but there is no sound from the outputs; c'est la vie

A Topping E30 should work at least until the sample rate changes. Then you need to toggle between inputs to get sound again.

I remember your thread, I think I even contributed . I'm certain that my DX3 Pro worked with EDO.

But since then, I think I have updated the firmware, and now it doesn't

The E30 is a new one, with, I guess, also the new firmware.

Both devices report as running and the sample rate changes on the screen, but no sound.

I'm not bothered enough to chase the problem
