      Dear Ronnie,

Don’t be sorry. You’ve been of great help. My dsfs are playing!
According to Apesbrain the SBT is not capable to play dsd>64. See her / his prior post. For now that’s okay. And maybe the ‘switching issue’ will be solved in futere

Until further notice, I’m a happy dsf listener

      Thanks again!

        • hotplug USB DAC

          Hello People,

I've used my Touch connected to a PS Audio Sprout100 with Toslink for quite some time now,
and I've been enjoying it a lot. Last week I've "upgraded" my speakers with a pair of Kef LS50
and I found the sound a bit to bright, then I remembered I could also use the usb port, maybe that might
change things. Things changed allright, but now when I change input on the sprout and change it back to digital
the Touch looses its connection with the sprout.
apparently the sprout disables the usb port when selecting another input, and the touch doesn't recognise it when it
          is turned on again.

Searching the forum I found this:
          2) USB support does not yet support hot plugging of usb dacs - please connect your dac and leave turned on at present [this is likely to improve in future]

does anyone know if this somehow improved somewhere in time? or might there be a hack which i can do, maybe ssh into the touch?

or maybe someone knows if picoreplayer would do this? (then I might use the Pi as a player) and the touch as a not so portable remote

          thanks
          Dennis

          • Schiit Modius and EDO 1.0

I ploughed through this thread but could not find anyone who has reported using the new Modius with an SBT on EDO 1.0. Everything appears to be OK except that there is no sound. SBT recognises the DAC as Schitt Modius Unison USB and also displays the sampling rates of the different tracks being played.

Just no music; not a mouse stirring. Feeling a bit shitty.

              Two ideas:

              1. Are you attempting to power the Modius from the SBT's USB port? If so, try using external power to see whether that makes a difference: Unplug the SBT from the data+power port, plug the wall-wart into the dedicated power port, then plug the SBT back into the data+power port.

              2. Are you sure that the USB input is selected? The front-panel button cycles through the inputs.

Have you checked if the the SPDIF outputs on the SBT work into the dac ? (select Digital as output)

                  1. that’s exactly what i had done at first instance.

                  2. i cycled through all the inputs. i’m assume the first one is usb. there are no worded labels, only little symbols.

sbt via coaxial into the modius works fine. the volume is soft though if compared to the bifrost.

Ok, I tried it myself. I don't have a Modius, but I do have a Bifrost 2 with the same "Unison" USB interface.

The Bifrost 2 works great with EDO over coax SPDIF, but over USB I had exactly your results: The DAC enumerates, identifying itself as a Schiit Unison UAC2 device, but no music.

If I were in your position I'd send an email to Jason at Schiit; perhaps he has some ideas.

                      Good luck.

thanks fastfwd for taking the trouble to test it out. i am much obliged. on writing to Jason I must say, at the outset, that he did not, or chose not, to reply my last email to him just before i acquired the Modius from his Schiit - though I must concede that the main question in that email was somewhat irreverent. I had fondly asked: "would the Modius be an upgrade to my original 2012 Bifrost." my own and only conclusion now is that is is NOT.

                          I have a Topping DX3Pro

It's connected by usb from a rpi3b+ and by spdif co-ax from an Allo Digione (this als has a librespot instance installed).

All players use Squeezelite on the Raspberrypi Desktop OS

The LMS is installed on a rp4b (4gb) also running the raspberrypi OS Desktop

I only have three dsd/dsf files for testing

I installed EDO on my SBT but I get this message when I navigate to LMS > Settings > Squeezebox Touch > DSDPlayer

I'm certain that when I connected the Topping several months ago, that it did work with the EDO/DSD. But not, apparently, any more.
The SBT software is up to date. LMS is

Anyway, both the USB and Co-ax work from the SBT into the Topping.

With usb I have to use the remote to either Stop/start or switch input when changing from one source, say local music files, to another, eg. internet radio.

With the Spdif co-ax I can just switch source and get immediate playback (as normal).

                          Sorry I can't help further

I am waiting for a Topping E30 to arrive to replace my Musical Fidelity V-Dac. I had thought I would try the USB input from the Touch but your comments about having to reselect the input when changing the music source puts me off a bit. Is that normal for all USB DACs?

Ah, well that was a combination of PBKAC and poor user instructions from Topping (or given the first reason, maybe the second was also confusion in my mind).

I simply failed to comprehend the setup instructions.

I can now flip between internet streaming, playing a music file and then a podcast sequentially on the usb input without any fannying around with the remote (hangs head in shame and shuffles off, stage left ).

                            ronnie

optical input now has a TV connected and the co-ax is using a Sonos Connect as source.

Aren't you going to explain how to fix it then? I will probably have even more issues having never used a USB DAC before [emoji1787]

Look ere, in a previous life, did someone not say of you "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?"

It was/is a combination of using the remote and pressing the Big selection button on the front of the DX3Pro.

I see that your one doesn't have the button, so should be fine.

When I first had the DX3Pro I was given some incorrect info from a retailer (who (at the time I asked) knew as much about as myself).

After arranging to send the thing back I found (by trial and error) that I had been selecting the incorrect output

                                All good now.
