Touch Can't see Server and Server Can't see Touch

I stupidly allowed LMS to automatically update. Last time I did this I had problems and I have again now.

The server says no player found and the touch cannot find the server.

    Connecting to MySqueezeBox works fine.

I have rebooted the server, rebooted the switch, disconnected cables etc. Nothing works. The Touch and the server are both plugged into the same switch.

What on earth is going on and how do I stop this happening again?

I didn't think LMS did automatically update. What was updated?

There is a n option to allow it to update and I stupidly said yes. But I found the issue from another post. As ever it was a firewall issue. I decided to change firewalll and I thought the new one would show a notification without just blocking stuff. How wrong I was!

I don't understand why firewalls don't ask you what to block when you install them. It seems obvious to me that they would go through all installed applications and ask what you want to do. It would be even better if they had rules for apps that they know about. But it appears they don't work that way!!

Does anyone know of a good Windows firewall?

Have you tried zonealarm? Where is the option to allow LMS to update?

Windows 10 and 11 come with their own "Windows Defender Firewall". Personally I don't see the need to run 3rd party firewall software.

Automatic Update can be configured via LMS => Settings => Advanced => Software Updates.

That only checks for updates and downloads them, it doesn't install them automatically.

The help text that is shown when you hover over the "i" box says that when you allow automatic download of LMS updates, you will be prompted to install the update as soon as the download has finished. I suppose the OP was prompted and allowed installation of the downloaded LMS update. I do not really know, since I have disabled automatic download of updates.

                  That's possible.

I run a copy of LMS on Windows.

When I see the message that an updated version is available, I download the new version from

right click on the download and install as admin

I can't remember the last time I had a reminder from the Windows firewall to grant permission, but it can happen occasionally, I guess.

I would suggest to DLD-UK that it would be a good thing to try this procedure, it may resolve the issue

                      Hi Ronnie,

How are you? Long time since we spoke.

It doesn't matter how LMS is installled on Windows. It is alll down to the firewall. I had a firewall which would show a pop-up asking me what to do about a program it had no rules for. That was fine.

But I tried a new frewall and it's default behaviour was to block everything. It was my own stupid fault for not realising that. In fact I forgot I had installed it. It was one of those "I wonder what this software is like" situations. Stupid me!

It was such a long time since I had that happen that I didn't even think it could be the reason.until I read another post.

                        I'm fine, thanks.

I have used the Windows default anti-virus and firewall for many years now, they both seem perfectly adequate for my needs.

                        Keep safe
