Radio powered down saying battery out of power

The radio hasn't been used for months, and I plugged it in. No problems connecting with WiFi and navigating to play music.
After a minute, there was a warning, battery has no charge. The radio powered down and since then the screen boots up and immediately back down while plugged.
I tried another extension block.
I have left it on charge just incase it is charging batteries as priority.

Any other options?

Try with the battery removed.

Yes! That works, I'll try a new battery pack if I need to take it outdoors.
