I did not manage to install the "Version Comparison Fix" thru mysqueezebox.com : removing, then installing Patch installer is OK. But then Patch installer menu just beep with not available items
    Just waiting for more advices
    Thanks

Edit: It works if you reboot LMS 8, but never noticed the "lms8" addon
As stated in the previous post Michael doesn't see edits.

So if I understand correctly I need to either downgrade my LMS to a pre 8.0 version and patch my SB Radios or I need to install a pre 7.0 instance somewhere on the network, connect the radios to that instance, do this patch and then reconnect them to 8.0?

Would this have anything to do with my SB Radios being buggy and unresponsive and disconnecting to LMS intermittently now for a couple of months?

None of this. If you run the latest LMS8 you should be just fine, and
        able to install the patch.

          Thank you for the response.

With the latest 8.0 version the instructions that were provided within the server settings page for updating the player did not work. I could enable the patch applet on the SB radio but it would then become unresponsive and show that it was disconnected from the server. Sometimes hard power cycling it would get it to work for a little while but the controls are slow and unresponsive. I suspect the player cpu is completely overwhelmed with some process activity but don't know if I can debug it (doubt it has ssh access, etc.).

i have been having a lot of trouble with my SBs and these newer versions. My SB Boom would just randomly turn itself on and start playing music, something it's never done in the 7 years I've owned it. The SB Radios will periodically disconnect from the server and not reconnect.

I upgraded to newer versions in order to gain Spotify integration. Doesn't seem to be worth it.

I will roll back to the last release version and confirm that everything is working properly again before I contemplate another attempt to update to the newer versions.

Thanks for all your hard (unpaid) work on this project. It's gratifying that someone cares enough to put this amount of effort in keeping these abandoned but very useful products going. In my case I don't seem to be having good results but maybe if I confirm everything is stable for a few weeks on 7.x I will contemplate another attempt at updating.

Unresponsive after you tried to patch it? While patching it? Or any time?

Settings/Advanced/Remote Access allows you to enable ssh.

The image viewer screen saver is known to use a lot of CPU and memory.
Just in case you happened to be using it.

I see you have a NAS which is exposed to the internet. Is it heavily
loaded (Plesk)? You don't expose LMS to the internet, do you?

I have seen the unresponsive behavior since first updating to the non-release versions but it would typically go away after a reboot. When I enabled the patch after the reboot it was like I threw a switch and the player became sluggish and unresponsive. I tried rebooting it a couple of times but it was the same behavior each time.

Settings/Advanced/Remote Access allows you to enable ssh.
Ah good info thanks. My SBs have been so reliable for so many years I have never really needed to do any serious debugging on them.

The image viewer screen saver is known to use a lot of CPU and memory.
On 2nd SB Radio I did a factory reset before enabling the patch and saw the same behavior.

I have a DS1618+ which is a pretty robust Synology NAS. When I'm seeing these problems I am seeing 1-5% CPU activity on the NAS and less than 20% RAM utilization. The server itself is completely responsive (opening settings pages, playing music from a browser, etc.).

My NAS is not exposed to the internet.

I have a 6.5U1 ESXi server I could also run a VM on just to run LMS. I have contemplated it but it seems like a lot of work to set up and maintain when on the Synology it's nothing more than loading a single package.

I should add that I do have two non-standard plugins enabled on the server, iTunes integration & Spotty plugin.

I've gone ahead and pulled the 8.0 installation out and put 7.6 back on the NAS. I will run for a week or two and see if things are solid and if so I will possibly try going back to 8.0 and figuring out if a specific configuration change is causing the problem.

Just an update in case anyone else stumbles upon my previous post.

I'm still having problems on the older SW release and it appears that the issue in my case is being caused by recent updates to my home mesh network firmware (Unifi). All of my other wireless devices continue to work quite well with my enterprise grade wireless solution other than the SB Radios.

Since I refuse to cripple my 50 client wireless network to accommodate the aging SB Radios it appears that my options will be limited to either putting them out to pasture or installing a wired ethernet bridge at the location that the SB Radios are being utilized as I don't have ethernet available there.

I run a Ubiquiti Unifi mesh network with four AP's, a USG and a Controller (on an RPi) handling 71 clients. The entire system is rock solid and the Radio/Boom's/SB3's connect work flawlessly. Whilst the Unifi system is great you do need to be careful with some of the configuration settings. If you have changed anything in the Controller I suggest you go back to the original settings and check with the Unifi Forum before making adjustments. It works perfectly out of the box but there is a huge temptation to start tweaking things with over a hundred options. Some of these may be useful in a corporate environment but none will make much difference at home. Specifically do not use 'Auto-optimise network' and do not enable 'Advanced Features' for there be monsters!

I'm actually having some luck with the AI optimizer that chooses channels. Runs once per week and decides which channels are best.

But yes, it's easy to make a mess in there.

Not tried the AI optimise myself as we do not have much interference although the 'Connect high performance clients to 5 GHz only' works well. Fast Roaming beta option seems to cause problems though. The debugging metrics provides a good way of discovering issues. The advice is to set 2.4Ghz radio's to low power and 5Ghz radio's to medium power especially if there are high Rx retries. Again almost everyone who opens up the (amazing and comprehensive) Controller interface set the power of the radio's to maximum thinking they will improve performance but, counter intuitively, it can do the opposite especially with older devices.

I'm running LMS 8 and seeing this in the web UI on the Settings>Information page:

You seem to be using a Radio with an outdated firmware, not recognizing this version of Logitech Media Server. Please consider patching it.

The Radio has firmware 7.7.3-r16676, and it connects and works just fine with LMS 8. Is there a later firmware available that I should install from mysqueezebox.com, or just live with the warning message?

I had that message on my Information page also after doing a factory reset of my SB Radio, but I was able to follow the instructions on the first post of this thread and the message disappeared, I did not need to revert to 7.x or setup a second 7.x LMS.

Instead of going through all of that to patch the firmware, is there a reason why a new version of the firmware can't just be released?

Presumably because it is no longer supported by Logitech and making an official firmware update would require many hoops to be jumped through including the risk of extra calls to the Logitech support desk which is probably not equipped to receive an increased call load from Squeezebox users.
