Thanks for this thread. My SB controller failed after a power outage and I feared it was the device itself. To test I used two loose wires connected to a 5V floodlight charger and sure enough the controller came back to life.

So I pried the rubber from the stand's bottom which exposes a large rectangular pull relief. I cut off the long end of the cable and then cut the pull relief mid way, being careful not to touch the cable inside it. Tearing off the cut section this exposes almost 2cm of shielded wire where the shield is earth and the wire is +5V. Doing a similar thing with an obsolete USB printer cable I had lying around, keeping around 7mm of its pull relief, I soldered the black and red wires (which are pretty thin compared to the oversized original wire) to the wires in the stand which I then isolated and stuck it into the space where the original pull relief had been, after which I glued back the rubber. So now I have a stand with a cable that has a standard USB-A connector that will plug into any phone charge adapter.

I bought a new PSU (5V, 2A) and a fitting female jack thing to solder on the Controller's power cord. Works perfectly.

    You're right, it's the PSU.

Seems like I read another thread on these forums where a user spliced a USB plug to the controller cable and then used a standard 5V USB charger for the power supply.
Yes, I perused that thread, but it seems the 5V threw me off track. I'll try something. Thank you!

    Duet Controller won't charge

My Duet Controller won't charge anymore. It doesn't play that back-in-the-cradle jingle anymore, either. So I guess it's not the battery, which I replaced today. So much for an easy fix. I checked the connectors inside the cradle and it's the 5V advertised on the PSU. What could be wrong with the poor guy?
Working...
