Need Power Adapter for Receiver, can't find one anywhere....

    One of my SQB Duet power supplies also recently died, this was my solution

    Old thread but these SQB receivers / duets still exist and work fine everywhere so... My original PSA05R-090 adapter is failing, giving up the ghost too now, in the Spring of 2021. I remember that I had a few new RadioShack power adapters from when they closed down a few years ago. I also had a bunch of their interchangeable cord tips at hand in our garage. A smaller yellow one from the collection does the job admirably, powered from a 6V-800mA PA (vs the Duet stock 560mA). It has (approximately?) the 3.5mm OD & 1.05 ID required by the Duet. The receiver stayed cool after hours of testing initially and now in normal operation. Fortunately, I found in the same box another 273-1761. Since I have a 2nd Duet in our master bedroom I'm saving it for when the same need arises, soon probably (I've had those Duets since early 2009). You could also use a R.S. model 273-1770 PA which is a more closely matched adapter (9V as the stock one, and 800mA) if you have or find one on eBay, etc. The problem here is to match it with the correct smaller interchangeable yellow plug needed. I'm in the U.S. and could have purchased a couple of the 'stock' PSA05R-090 with the right connector but it was quite cheaper this way and it's working fine for me as it is.

      Just replying to this with a source for Duet Receiver power supplies in the UK (as of August 2021, leastways).

      One of my 3 Duet Receiver PSUs recently failed (enough V, not enough A).

      After a good deal of searching around I eventually bought one of these:



      The tip fits the Receiver socket firmly, which was a relief, as a common complaint with most third-party PSUs seems to be that the tip is a poor fit, because of Logitech's baffling decision to use a weirdly-sized one.

        PSU test?

        My DUET will not power on. How can I determine if it is the PSU unit that has failed and not something else in the DUET itself? Is there a way to test it with a multimeter?

          Can't remember for sure, but when my power supply failed I think the receiver still showed the red light on the fiber audio jack on the back of the receiver when plugged in.
          Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 8.3.1 on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets ( both WiFi, farthest unit gets 60% signal strength and always works since new power supply) and Squeeseslave
          Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 8.3.1 on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model B (WiFi) /Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave
          Squeezebox Boom - "At Large" player around both home and cabin
          Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin)

            Yes, you can test a power adapter with a multimeter, but it's not as straightforward as just connecting it directly to the adapter.

            It may well show that it's supplying the correct voltage and/or current, but what really matters is if it's supplying the required voltage and current under load.

            So you'd need to put a suitable dummy load in series with the PSU and multimeter.

                  By chance I found MyVolts independently and ordered one of these just last week for my receiver which was doing the classic unresponsive but the TOS LED showing.
                  It arrived today but the plug is the wrong size - it's 4mmOD so a bit snug - much better that slack as Jon says BUT the pin on the Receiver is *TINY* - 1.05mm according to the Wiki https://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.p..._Receiver.html and it wasn't making proper contact. I did eventually manage to squeeze (HA!) the leaves in the plug using my smallest watchmaker screwdriver to get it to make reliable contact so I now have the receiver working again.
                  There is a comment on the MyVolts suggesting that the plug is suitable for a 2.1mm pin - seems about right but I didn't bother trying to validate that (possibly using small drills as feeler gauges)

                  The PSU is a neat device and rated at 1A according to the sticker so can comfortably cover the receiver, and I will admit that I've not found anywhere that has a plug with the dimensions of the original.

                  My plan A was to just get a generic 9V 600mA/1A adaptor and splice the old lead on to it, but went for the MyVolts as it seemed to be a neater option.

                  The MyVolts one also took a week to come from Switzerland so I'd have been better off getting a cheaper generic 9V one from CPC in a day or two and doing some soldering and heat shrinking.

                    A couple of weeks ago my ever-faithful Duet was nonresponsive when I went to fire up my music. After investigating, the LED button on the front was blinking red. We had a brief power outage the day before, so I did as I've done many times over the years: I unplugged and replugged the PSU to force a reboot. Only this time, I had a solid red LED which then cycled through yellow and then purple (which isn't a defined color and seemed "off"). The button on the front was nonresponsive, too. I couldn't connect to the Duet with either the original controller or iPeng either. After trying to reboot it a few more times, the LED stopped showing any signs of life.

                    Glad I found this thread (and remembered my Logitech forum login). Even though my symptoms didn't quite match anything I was reading online, it seemed to have all the hallmarks of a failing/failed PSU. So I checked Logitech's site (thanks for the link) and discovered -- after nearly 5 years -- that they indeed are still selling replacement PSUs for $15 and have stock! After receiving the new PSU and swapping out the US prong plate, my Squeezebox was back up and running in about six seconds.

                    So this is to 1) say thanks, 2) add my troubleshooting details for historical record, 3) confirm that as of December 2021 Logitech still sells the replacement PSU in the US, and 4) to confirm that, indeed, the paper pouch containing the PSU does appear to be new-old-stock that's been sitting on a warehouse shelf for 10+ years (it was really yellowed around the edges and the tape flap had seriously degraded)!

                      I have 3 duets and 2 of the PSA05R-090 power supplies failed ... You can still measure 9V but the receiver does not start up anymore. As of this writing Logitech still has the power supplies in stock (and yes the package seems to look very old). They work with the existing power plug plate from the broken power supply so you don't need to buy that.

                      The alternative would be to buy a cheap 9V (0.56A or larger) DC power supply and make your own adapter by buying a female barrel connecter to match the new power supply male barrel connector (e.g. 5.5x2.1mm or 5.5x2.5mm) and solder that to the cable you cut off the old connector from you broken PS.

                        I just went for one of these, set it to 9V, found which plug fit the receiver and it's been running just fine ever since.
                        Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 8.3.1 on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets ( both WiFi, farthest unit gets 60% signal strength and always works since new power supply) and Squeeseslave

                          If you don't mind splicing wires, something like this with the barrel plug replaced with the original from the PSU would let you use a USB-C PD source (that can supply the minimum current needed at 9v) and those will be easier to find going forward

                                I got one something like this for my failed receiver power adapter;

                                Set it to 9V and picked the tip that fit my receiver. Been running for at least 3 years now just fine.
